Zero Drive

Hey guys and gals!

I was on birth control for 4 years and within in the last couple of years, my sex drive went KAPUT! So I have been on BC since January but no rebound. We are now thinking it's my anti-depressant. I have been on 3 different kind, Prozac(sex drive good but mood terrible), Lexapro(very bad, suicidal), and now Zoloft(zero sex drive). We are eventually wanting child but you have to have sex for that to happen. Is anyone out there on an SSRI and has a healthy sex drive? If so, what kind and how long have you been on it?

 THANK YOU!!!

Re: Zero Drive

  • All of those are notorious for killing people's sex drives.  Are you planning on being on antidepressants permanently?  Might psychoanalytic therapy and eventually weaning off of the antidepressants be an option?

  • SSRIs and SNRIs do that.  Have you tried wellbutrin?  It's in a different class and doesn't have sexual side effects.
  • I've been on anti-depressant since 1998 with tons of therapy on and off medication. But the therapy didn't do much. With therapy I was able to get my depression under control but my anxiety goes off the charts! So I think anti-depressants may be a life long thing. Although my GYN and GP say pregnancy can sometime reset or rewire the brain to where meds aren't needed anymore.

I've been doing research today about the differences and think Wellbutrin is in the running. I have a GP appointment in 2 weeks so I just want to have all my questions, concerns, and ideas laid out.
