Update: Got the job!

I have been so busy lately I forgot to update on my interview, sorry! I received an offer! Big Smile

Looks like DH and I will be able to finally find a house later this year and settle down for good without having to worry about moving to another city. We're currently renting due to the uncertainty of where I would be post-grad. I've been trying to research real estate and learn all the right terms so I can actually know what we're getting into but, I'm having problems finding a good source...any recs? Any tips for how all of you prepared yourself to enter the real estate market? TIA!

Re: Update: Got the job!

  • Congrats!  Sorry I don't have any moving suggestions.
  • Congrats on the job!!! My husband already owned his house before we were married, so he knew a lot about real estate. So now we have two houses and just purchased a fourplex. Lot's of mortgages going around. haha Good Luck on everything!!
  • I'm kind of in your situation!  I have just been researching daily on the internet to figure what the market is like.  If I were you, I would just start out by going to open houses on the weekends to houses in your price range.  By doing this, you can also get a feel for realtors if you plan on using one.  Good luck :-) and congrats!

Post this on the Buying A Home board. Those ladies are pretty helpful.

  • that is wonderful! congratulations!
  • yah!  Interview a few loan officers and ask them how to prepare yourselves and what to expect.  I did that a good 6 months before starting to look and I'm soooo glad I did.  My LO was able to give me a few tips to bump DH's credit up a few points so we qualify for an A paper loan.  I also like www.redfin.com to look for houses online but there are lots of sites.

  • Thanks for the tips everyone! This is definitely a new step for us...exciting but scary!
  • Congrats!  How exciting for you!

As for buying a house (I've owned two), I knew NOTHING when I bought my first house (a new construction). Thank goodness for an honest sales manager who recongized I was a single 20-something with little knowledge. I started researching a lot on my own because when I looked at a few places with an agent she scared the crap out of me and I did everything on my own. Feel free to PM with any questions, I've been a homeowner for 11 years now!
