Does anyone borrow ebooks from MD Library ebook consortium?

I decided on the Nook and I've borrowed 2 books from the library and I'm devouring them! The only problem is the lack of available books. The list is pretty limited and if there's one I want to read it has a HUGE waiting list, longer than if I got a regular book for sure. I know someone said they borrow but I can't remember who!

So any good recommendations of ebooks you've borrowed that didn't take a half a year?  : )

  • I usually read books from project gutenberg or the free nook books from b&n while waiting for my turn to come up on the waiting list. you can also sort the library e-books by those always and/or currently available. sometimes i don't like to see the ones that i can't have!

Ooh thanks! I will look up Project Gutenberg. How do you search for the free nook books? I search for the deals and have only found books that are $0.99. I like free!

  • I've never actually seen them browsing books while on the nook. But if you go to b&n's website, under nookbooks, there's a listing for free nookbooks! You still have to ''purchase'' the free ebook (it will charge you $0.00), but then it will push the book to your nook the next time you connect to the wifi (it will probably go automatically if you have the 3-G version).

Project gutenberg is a website for public domain books (the classics and such). I also use a program called calibre to manage my nook/ebooks or to read on my computer.

The selection is pretty limited but my bigger issue is how the online library is set up, I have a hard time finding books that I want to read on it. But I figure it's better than nothing.

A lot of times older best-sellers are available - the Historian was available, Freakonomics, etc. I also find that when I do get on the waitlist for books, they tend to become available faster than the website indicates.

The Philadelphia public library is supposed to have a really good selection of e-books and apparently you can join for 20 dollars a year, but I haven't looked into it more than that.

  • I also belong to the NY eLibrary, which has some books the MD one doesn't (and vice versa).  I generally add a Nicholas Sparks book while I'm waiting since those are pretty readily available (although I'm pretty close to reading them all...)
