Catholic Ladies please help

I may or may not be going to a confirmation in a couple of weeks, and I've never been to a Catholic confirmation.  They're having a big party after, we just got a fancy invitation in the mail for it.  My questions:

1.  What kind of gift is appropriate?  For mine, I only got gifts from a couple of people and they were all religious (Bible, Catechism, cross necklace, and a plaque with a prayer on it).  I feel like their parents, grandparents, and sponsors are going to be getting them things like this so I don't know what else to get them.  Is a check or GC ok?

2.  What should I wear?  It's on Saturday, so not during Sunday mass.  Normal church clothes?  Less formal because it's Saturday?  More formal because it's a confirmation?  Halp!

Re: Catholic Ladies please help

  • We didn't have a party for my Confirmation, but the popular gift then was a name necklace.  I'd say a monetary gift would be acceptable.  Or if you don't want to give money, maybe a nice leather journal?

I'd would say a casual sun/dress, or business casual, would be fine.  But the fancy invite might sway me, personally, to dress a little more formal.

    Hope that helps!

  • A check or giftcard would be perfectly fine! I would do normal church clothes - even though its on a Saturday its still an important ceremony (our wedding was on a Saturday and everyone still dressed up! Big Smile) HTH! Smile
  • Normal church clothes and a check is fine! For mine like you said the only special gifts I got were from my grandparents and aunts and uncles. The rest of them gave me money.
  • I would do church clothes and a monetary gift is fine. You're right in thinking that the parents, grandparents and sponsors will do the traditional gifts. I think I got a cross necklace, a book (can't remember now) and then money from everyone else.

  • If you wanna get a little more personal find out what Saint they are confirmed under-- or if they are using their baptism name for Confirmation. You could always get something inscribed at a Things Remembered. But if you want the quick easy route- yes- a gift card or a check is good too.

And yea- normal church clothes even on a Saturday is appropriate. Usually Confirmation Ceremonies are a BIG deal-- because the Bishop of the diocese is there. I hope you have a good time  and Congrats to the Confirmandi!! It's an exciting time! :o)

  • I feel silly, I have just never been to a Saturday mass before!  Also, I will see if I can wriggle out the Saint names and think about getting something engraved.  There are actually two people getting confirmed, so I'll have to think of something for a 13 y.o. boy...girls are way easier IMO.
