What are your summer essentials?
I went to Nordstrom Rack today to return a dress and got caught looking at wonderful summer clothes. As I have none, I pondered what I would wear if I were to buy a new summer wardrobe. I don't need summer work clothes, since I wear scrubs. But I only have a couple shorts, jean capris and basically rotate my fall/winter tops around. I feel like I have no "cute" summer clothes.
What do you wear in the summer? What can you not do without? What are you dying to get this season?

I usually wear jeans or capris and cute summery tops. I have some ruffled, flowered tanks that I love and wear a sweater/cardigan over them. I also do graphic t's. For shoes I used to wear flip-flops a lot but in recent summers my feet get super cold indoors so I usually wear slip on flats, my grey chucks, or my New Balance tennis shoes- they're more fashion tennis shoes than work-out tennis shoes.
this is such a vanilla post coming from you that i hardly even know what to do with it. ; )
OP, i really struggle with this as well. i categorically refuse to wear shorts but i don't like (TMI) my thighs rubbing together in skirts. i mostly wear capris but i only have 2 pairs that i like which is not enough.
for tops, i also wear a lot of wife beater cut tanks and tees. i'm trying to build in some less clingy tops though because i have a bit of a pooch that i am self conscious about.
overall, i HATE summer clothes because they show more than i'm comfortable with.
This is my problem! That, and I'm much more of a fall colors person. I want to look cute without trying, but that takes effort! (And it takes effort going to the gym to loose my pooch). I have a hard time rationalizing buying cute clothes since I don't "do" anything in the summer so then I end up with normal shorts the same capris and a tank...
I couldn't think of anything obnoxious about my summer clothing choices or groups of people that make me angry with their choices. I will have to think about it.

This.
I don't wear shorts in public, unless exercising, doing yard work on a hot day, or perhaps when camping. I just don't like them. I don't really like capris either, but I have one pair I'll wear occasionally.
I do a lot of A-line summery skirts and sundresses. Or pants/jeans with girly t-shirts. As an example, I bought this one last weekend. My office is casual enough that I can wear stuff like this to work, so it's versatile enough for me to wear at work or outside of work.
I dislike wearing sleeveless tops by themselves as I don't like showing my arms, but I'll buy some and layer them with lightweight cardigans or jackets at work. My office is freezing in the summer (hello ... save some $ on utilities and turn down the A/C!), meaning layering is a must for me in the summers.

I usually wear stuff like this:
Since I don't work in the summer, a lot of cute gym shorts and wife beater cut tanks. Then I can roll out of bed, throw on a bra and hit the backyard.
Lots and lots of flip flops.
If I'm going anywhere other than the backyard, capris, capris, capris.

I always buy a few "fun" t-shirts and summery shirts and then pair them with bermuda shorts, flowy (is that a word?) skirts, jeans, or capris. And lots of wedges and flip flops. I wish I had toned enough arms for tank tops!
Oh, and I bought the cutest cover-up type dress from Target. I think it will work as a regular sundress too with nice shoes and jewelry. I can't wait for summer
