Outfit for my sister's wedding

This is probably the last big formal event in my immediate family, so I'm going to Nordstrom to have a personal shopper pick out my outfit, then have it tailored.

It's important to me to look good and feel great on the day. As such, I will probably be shopping in plus-size ... but I don't want to look like a grandma.

What do you think of these? They give me hope ...

Re: Outfit for my sister's wedding

  • They're not really my style but you should pick out whatever makes you feel pretty and comfortable. The nice thing about the personal shoppers at Nordstrom is that they force you to try things out of your comfort zone, and I'm sure you'll have lots of options to choose from.
  • I like the first one best of these. I don't necessarily like the amount of fabric they've added to the ohters.

  • Meh, none of those really strike me as totally you. They are all nice & very tasteful, but don't do much for me. I am sure that nordies will be able to find something great for you.
  • I really really don't like the first one.  I think the second one would be super flattering on you.  The third one is okay - not as good as #2, but much better IMO than #1.

  • That should be fun! You have to post a pic of what you wind up with after! :)

Maybe I'm weird but I feel like the girl in the pics doesn't fill out the top part of those dresses very well? But, as I recall, your boobs are bigger, so I bet they'd look great. I especially like the pattern of the first one.

  • I LOVE #2.

#1 looks really unflattering, even on the model.

I would love to do the personal shopper thing, I think it is a great idea for a special event that you get to choose your own outfit for.

  • Yeah, I hear you. Maybe I'm trying to branch out too far from my Old Faithful--The Sheath:

I agree #2 looks the best to me. #1 looks like it would cut in all the wrong places. best of luck!!

But, as I recall, your boobs are bigger, so I bet they'd look great.

Since the girls are gigantic (FF/G, last time I checked), they do tend to make themselves known no matter what I wear. I find if I try to play them down, they wind up looking better than they do if I wear outfits designed for them. As I once told a roommate who was upset at how much cleavage I show: These babies make a t-shirt look pornographic!

  • I am really annoyed with #1, that "V" thing really ruins a gorgeous dress.  The V is just going to emphasis hips, poor taste to put that over a belly, but that fabric is beautiful.

#2 and #3 are my choices.

#2 has the potential to make an ample bust look bigger because of the billowing of the fabric, so if you are sensitive about the girls looking big, nix that one.

#3 is great, but I am a little dissapointed that the band under the bust line is not thicker to give a more separated and defined look.  It just kind of blends....the V neck will make a smaller bust look sexy and a bigger bust will stay in check if you wear the right bra...this is not so deep you couldn't wear a great bra.

The pros of the more flowy dresses...even after you eat you wont feel fat because it will move softly against you and no rolls or pudges will show (something I concern myself over frequently) also....with weddings you sit down a LOT and so no folds and wrinkles in the fabric between sitting and standing. Major plus.

When's the last time you've been fitted for a bra? The girls at Nordstrom's lingerie department have been great at fitting me. They can probably also help if you want something to  minimize the girls  ;)   Oh and the sheath is definitely hotter than the other three dresses you posted.

  • Love the sheath! I like #2 and #3, but sorry, no. 1 just looks old ladyish to me (though that is beautiful fabric). I can't wait to see what the personal shopper comes up with! Please show us!

  • Another vote for the sheath. That dress is, as PP said, super hott!

Every couple years I get fitted at Town Shop in NYC. I love them there. I will check on sizing at Nordies, though ... always good to have non-internet options for undergarments!

  • I LOVE the second one. Love it.
