For those upset over Dole's "Godless" ad

This article was one of the headlines on Fox News, of all places.

http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/11/01/dole-trails-democratic-rival-hagan-north-carolina-senate-race/

The latest from North Carolina pollsters indicates that Sen. Elizabeth Dole is trailing even further behind Democratic rival Kay Hagan in a seeming backlash against the incumbent's "Godless" ad.

Re: For those upset over Dole's "Godless" ad

  • If she were losing because people have good feelings about atheists and don't consider calling someone an atheist an insult I would feel much better.

As it is I think they think atheist is a disgusting, unfair insult and that is where the backlash is coming from.  Therefore, it doesn't make me feel better.  People still have negative prejudices toward atheists.  They just know Kay Hagan is not one.
  • Imagine if Obama filed a defamation suit because someone called him Muslim. LOL -- I guess we know where atheists stand on this totem pole.
  • Ditto BM*.

To then it's not that they like atheists; it's that they think calling someone atheist is too low a blow, even for politics.?

  • Good point, BM*. Did you guys see Hagee's ad? I did like her point that she was worried about the important things rather than smearing her opponent. Good politics.

  • I saw one ad, and it was nearly as bad as Dole's. ?

Kay Hagan herself has a counter-ad that closes with an admonition against "making false witness against fellow Christians"

So, it's ok to make false witness against non-Christians? ? Why not just admonish against lies? ?I understand she needs to do the same thing that Obama did which is not just defend against lies but proclaim how strongly Christian he is. ?I wish that weren't the case, but it is. ?Still, when both of them do it, it irritates me.?
