Baby Update

Sorry ladies that I've been on and off the board lately. Things have been a little hectic. I hope everyone is doing well! :) So I just wanted to give you guys a baby update.

So about 2 weeks ago, right after we had our anatomy scan we got a call from our doctor. She said the baby looked absolutely perfect and they were extremely pleased with the ultrasound. The only concern they had was that the baby has 2 cyst on her brain ( CPC's they're called). She said not to be worried that they are very common and it happens to a lot of women. She said that we will just have to go in more frequently so they can monitor the cyst. The CPC's can be a very normal part of development or they can be a markers for downs syndrom in children. She said because all of my blood work, test and ultrasounds have come back so good they are not even worried about that. We have to go for a level 2 ultrasound tomorrow so they can look more closely just to make sure everything is good, but the doctor is pretty convinced that everything will be fine. Either way, I'm so nervous for tomorrow! So I just thought I would share my nervousness with you guys. I'll def let you know how the ultrasound goes tomorrow :)

  • Hey Jen, my lil' Kingston had a CPC they discovered during his anatomy scan. I had never heard if these before so I was freaking out. They say "don't worry, it's normal" but what mother wouldn't? OB didn't recommend an amniocentesis because all my 1st trimester bloodwork and scans came out w very low risks- even compared w my age- I'm over 35. So, fast forward to week 24: the CPC had disappeared. I've had several sonograms this pregnancy due to a short cervix and all the sonographers say that the CPC's that are problematic are accompanied by several other markers. Try not to stress, just pray and trust your doctors when they say it's normal. My brother is a neo-natal doc and says some sonograms show no signs of issues and babies are born w cyst related issues. Good luck with your sonogram and keep us posted. I've only heard positive CPC stories.

  • Thanks so much ladies! :):)

Summerbride- Thank you SOO much!! That is so great to hear! Its very comforting to hear other people who have had the same problem. They told me the same exact thing, dont worry at all. What? How can I not worry, lol! They said the same because my NT had come back so good, all my bloodwork and my anatomy scan they were are pretty sure its just a random one and not a marker for anything. Thanks so much again for sharing with me!

    I'll keep everyone posted! :)

  • Good luck at the level 2.

When I was pg w/Connor they found "light spots" over his heart -- which sent me to get a Level 2 U/S - they said that it is either tendons growing in a certain way causing things to look funny on the U/S or that it was a soft marker for downs...

Like you, all of my other bloodwork and test results came back very low risk so it didn't support the marker for downs.

At the Level 2 they said they weren't concerned at all, the dr said she saw what they were talkign about but felt it was of no concern. SHe did give me the option to get an amnio but given that all my other tests were so low risk I didn't want to risk miscarrying at 21 weeks because at that point, downs or not, it was my baby.

That being said... my regular OB gave me 2 more U/S just to follow up and both times those spots totally disappeared.

Its scary. Don't google too much you'll freak out. Either way...your baby will be wonderful.

    Keep us posted!
