Old Lady Feet

I have been having excruciating pain in my left foot for some time now. I figured it was my tendonitis flaring up and tried to manage it at home for a while. It wasn't getting any better so I thought maybe I have a stress fracture instead. So I decided to go see the podiatrist.

On the left side of my foot I have something that is similar to carpal tunnel syndrome except its in my foot and not my hand. He told me to wear my shoe laces looser. I told him I dont really wear sneakers b/c I can't stand them. He told me to lay off my crocs and get some sneakers HMPH!!

Then he sent me for some xrays thinking the same thing I thought that I had a stress fracture. The xrays come back and he says "Wow didnt see that coming". AWESOME... love hearing that from my Dr. I have freaking bone spurs on my big toe!!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY?!?! Who gets bone spurs in their 20's!!! He said that they are too small for surgery (thankfully), but they could get worse over time. Now comes the best part.  My 2 options for treatment right now is a cortisone shot (read: BIG SCARY NEEDLE) or buy sketchers shape ups!?!?!

Now if you where shape ups I'm going to apologize right now b/c I think they are the dumbest looking things in the world. Every time H and I pass them in the store we make fun of them. I hate sneakers in the first place and you want me to put those hideous things on my feet?!?!

I decide to run over to Khols just to see if they make a difference and if I think I can stomach wearing them.  I just can not bring myself to even try the sketchers on, but Avia has just come out with their own version. They dont look as bad as the Sketchers. I try them on and damn it if they dont immediately relive the pain in my foot! So then I look at the price tag and they were $120. Um unless they are going to make me levitate I'm not spending that kind of money on stupid looking shoes. I go to put them back and I notice they are on sale for $29!! I had to buy them.

The icing to all of this is I get them  out of the box at home and they stupid cashier left the security tag on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to go to the store and get them to take it off. The manager was nice though and gave me a take 15% your entire purchase card for a future use!

Re: Old Lady Feet

  • So sorry about your foot!  Awesome deal on the shoes though.  I hope they help.

Side story....After our NYC trip last year I had a ton of foot pain.  Fast forward to me going to the doctor and getting x-rays he comes back saying I have arthritis.  Nice....who has arthritis in their foot at 29?

  • Boooo that sucks.  I'm glad the shoes make a difference tho!  I keep talking myself out of the Shape Ups.  haha  But I totally want a pair.  I don't care how stupid they look.

If it makes you feel any better, I have what's called a "taylor's bunion" on both feet.  It's a bunion on the outer part of the foot, next to the pinkie toe.  On both feet.  WTH, man?  Old lady feel right here!  I have avoided surgery but really really want to have them removed.. but being off my feet for 6+weeks is just not an option right now.

My H has arthritis is one of his big toes! She's super athletic too, so I guess it just happens to anyone.

Sorry about your old lady feet, BMW! Hope the shoes make a difference!

  • That stinks!  Hope your feet start feeling better!

I have a pair of the Champion brand of shape shoes (from Payless).  They don't look like the Frankenstein ones, and you can barely tell they're the shaper shoes.  I wore them all over Amsterdam and definitely felt it.  They're great.

  • Thanks girls! I wore the shoes yesterday while I was getting my arse kicked at work. My foot felt ok until 11am and then it was hurting like hell for the rest of the day. I'm going to give the shoes a few more days. I have a feeling I will end up getting the shot :-/
