extreme couponing

i am watching an episode now. the woman has a boyfriend, but no kids. she had a basement filled with food. it looked like a small market. i can't help but wonder how much will go bad before it's eaten. she bought 35 bottles of maalox. that stuff has to expire at som point. i hope they donate. it seems wasteful.

Re: extreme couponing

  • My mom was talking to me and my cousin about her couponing when she was in town.  She does stuff like that - certainly not to that extreme - but she does stockpile.  She started talking about the 10 tubes of toothpaste she had and I was like, what?  I didn't realize my mom was that heavy into it.  She's been mailing me stacks of coupons lately to help me get started... many of them expire before I can even get to the grocery, not to mention I don't need five coupons for pepperidge farm milano cookies.  I mean... I do, but I don't!  LOL

MD, I did read somewhere that the people that are really psycho into it on that show do donate much of what they "purchase."

  • I keep forgetting to watch it, but on the preview it looked like they all had shelves and shelves of stuff. It's like selective hoarding or something.

  • It isn't saving money if you don't need the crap you are buying even if it is practically free. Why spend hours figuring out how to get 35 bottles of Maalox for free when there is literally no way you can use that much before it expires? Waste of time.

agreed. this one lady was using this $10 off $50 deal at her grocery store but found out it was only one deal per person. she had 7 orders of $50 and so once her h and she used the deal, she couldn't use it for the other 5 orders. so she actually called 5 friends and made them come to the store and stand with her so she could get the deal. and of course the cashier had to wait for her friends to arrive. honestly, if i asked people i know to do that they'd be like, "look. i'll GIVE you the $10 but my ass isn't going to the grocery store to stand with you right now." LOL

  • I saw that same episode, Eden. I think these people are going to end up on Hoarders the next week, haha.

No - I really agree that's it's silly to buy so much of something you don't even need. It's such an addiction.
