Re: camera girls
I'm not a camera girl...
CONGRATS!!!

Nice siggy! Congrats mama-to-be!
Oh, and I just bought that camera body last night off Amazon! Should arrive tomorrow!

Is Amazon's price better? why did you pick this model? do you have SLR experience?
I'm a Nikon girl, but I've heard good things about that Canon model. That price range seems reasonable...
YAY YAY YAYYYYY!!!

Well, I got the body only, so it was cheaper. But I believe the kit was the same price as what you posted. I think Amazon offers free shipping though....didn't notice if your site did.
Why I picked the model...umm, well, it wasn't a very researched decision. I knew I didn't want the the most basic model (XS), and I didn't see the XSi available (from Amazon anyways) as a body only. Next one up was the T1i, so I got it. I have SLR experience with film...not digital. Both Brian and I have SLR film cameras and took photo classes in college.

I'm hoping for that camera... so I say go for it and I can dream thru you!
Congrats mama! How are you doing?
I am also a Nikon girl, but that seems pretty reasonable. You can compare at Amazon, B&HPhoto, and Adorama to be sure.
Another idea might be to purchase the camera body and lens separately. The kit lens is really just OK and it is nice to start out on to see what focal lengths you like but it is pretty cheap glass to be putting on such a nice camera body. The IS feature on it is a bonus though!
Other lenses that you might want to look into (now or in the future) would be primes (they don't zoom, but are tack sharp) or fixed aperture lenses. For the kit lens in that link, the widest you can open up to is f/5.6 at 18mm and f/3.5 at 55mm. Meaning that in low light that lens won't perform very well w/o a flash (PS the on-board flash is evil! Always shoot with a lightscoop or speedlight vs straight on on-board camera flash).
omg!!!!!!!!!!
I definitely was just opening the link and didn't notice anything until I saw Jo congratulate you.
yay!!!!!
2012 Reading Challenge
I was looking at the kids club website yesterday and wondering why Claire wasn't on there. I totally forgot she had only said something in the fitness emails. I'm glad I didn't say anything and ruin the surprise!

That seems reasonable. You should check out Abe's of Maine. They had the best deal when I got my T2i in February. If you want to get it locally vs waiting for delivery, Best Buy will price match any competitor. We just brought in the printout from Abe's of Maine website (it was free shipping), they verified it themselves, and they matched the price. I had my camera in hand that day.
CONGRATS, Mama-to-be.
I would actually recommend against Best Buy for camera equipment ...
They don't have a great return policy and you'd have to pay a restocking fee. It is quite possible that ANY lens could be a soft copy or has front or back focusing issues. If you need to return or exchange the lens, you would actually lose money with Best Buy vs if you purchased through Adorama, B&H Photo, Amazon, or Newegg.
Congrats again Claire. I am glad you are able to "come out"
I have that camera...but DH bought it for me for Christmas, so I'm no good on price, sorry.
