Today there have been several things that have irked me (and its only 10:00 AM), so I thought I would start a thread so we can all share our pet peeves.
1. People making something out of nothing. Reason: I tripped on the stairs today. I didn't fall, break a leg, cry, or even make that much noise. My heel just hit the step the wrong way and I stumbled. I only have 7 people in this office and they are all like OH MY GOD ARE YOU ALRIGHT?!!? First off, they probably don't care. Second off when someone does something embarassing, isn't it common courtesy to not call a large amount of attention to it?
2. Overusing "Youre Welcome". Reason: The girl next to me says it all the time. I will sneeze. She will say bless you. I will say thank you. And she will make an extra point to say "Youre Welcome!" I know this one sounds silly, and what I just wrote might seem crazy/biitchy. Sit next to her and you will understand. A client will be like "Oh, way to go on this". Its kind of a rhetorical thank you. She is constantly Oh you are so welcome! It drives me insane.
Anyone else have any pet peeves?
Re: Pet Peeves
I could go ON AND ON. Let's see what we have first.....
1. People that don't hold doors open for others. ESPECIALLY when you KNOW someone is behind you. It's appalling how many times I am walking thru a doorway in front of someone and they DON'T HOLD IT OPEN. Talk about RUDE
2. Cars that don't stop for pedestrians (i.e. ME) in a crosswalk. In MA you can pretty much get ticketed if you DON'T stop for a pedestrian who is trying to cross in a cross walk. It's unbelievable how often it's done, and I can't STAND it
3. People that leave their back packs on the T (subway). This drives me BONKERS. They take up a ton more room and then have no idea that their bag is hitting me in the face. TAKE IT OFF.
There's more, but that's all I can think of right now...

People not holding doors is a BIGGIE for me, too. Ugh.
Or when people barge into the elevator without waiting to see if someone is getting off, and then they run into you and don't even say excuse me.
Ditto on the email one - how long does it take to either type a quick reply, or pick up the phone and respond? I have a colleague in our Chicago office whom I have to do a lot of corresponding with. She has made it clear that she prefers email over the phone (because she is soooooooo busy), and when I email her something that would take a second or more to respond to at, say, 10am - she won't get back to me until near the end of the day, or the next day...or not all all. Sheesh!
Also - going back out on the road for a minute - people who wander through life (er, the streets) with their ipods in their ears paying no attention whatsoever to their surroundings, traffic, the lights...nothing!
On the ride home yesterday, this guy practically walked down the middle of a busy street that we had turned onto. We had to slow down to a crawl to avoid hitting this dumb*ss, because he had his earbuds in and didn't hear our car approaching or worse, didn't care, while he strolled across the street against light like he had all day and all night !! I wish I had an air horn for times like that...grrr!
This, EXACTLY!

1. Chewing loudly. This can be anything from the horrible smacking, or the dreaded way that both my dad and Jeff chew Jell-O just as hard a a steak. I can't stand that sound when their teeth it together...ugh....also, along with this...people that "slurp" when they are drinking something out of a can. I could biff my boss' kids every time they do that!
2. Misspelling words!!! It freaks me out! People that don't know that it is L-O-S-E not loose, people that don't know their "there" "their" "they're" words and how they work, etc..
