Charleston Review

We stayed in North Charleston, its about 15 minutes away, at the Spring Hill Suites by Marriott. Holy Smokes, one of the nicer hotels I've stayed at. It's tucked away and off the main road. It wasn't $$$$$ but it wasnt the HoJo either. Thurs-Mon was $400.

There is SO much to do in Charleston, it's almost stupid.

You have to go downtown to Market St. Lot's of shopping. While you are there you have to do some shopping on King's St. Check out Rainbow Row, The Battery(all along the water) and just walk up Meeting St. There are some awesome houses and cobblestone streets. And the building all have established dates and what was there. While you are down there you must get dessert from Kaminsky's. I had this Almod Joy cake that was to die for!

Boone Hall Plantation - I think tickets were $15/pp. That gets you in, a tour of the house and grounds and a 1/2hour trolley tour around the gardens. So much history and totally worth the price. It is known to be the most photographed place.

USS Yorktwon Aircraft Carrier Muesum - tickets are $18/pp. So awesome to see how it was back in the day. They have numbered/arrowed tours so you can go at your own pace and check things out as you wish.

Firefly distillery - FREE! Tasting is $6/pp for 6 samples of vodka. They also have a winery with $3/p tasting. It's quite a drive and only open from Weds-Sat 11-5

Tea Plantation - FREE! The ONLY tea plantantion in the US!! You can combine this with the FireFire as they are only 5 miles from eachother.

Isle of Palms - Beach and shop area. So freaking nice. Really expensive houses and more middle age people.

Mount Pleasant/ Folly Beach - Beach and shop area. A little hippy. More of a younger/cheap crowd. I found a Cupcake shop there!!

Tanger Outlet - meh. Same crap as everywhere. But I did get an awesome new Coach!

Ghost Tours - A must do. It's a guided walking tour thru downtown. OMG, the stories were awesome!

There is SO much more to do that we didnt even get to. We wanted to go to Fort Sumtner, but I didnt want to pay the price for the ferry ride there and back. It's about a 1/2 hour ferry ride there.

There is also Sullivan's Island, which is where Darius Rucker has a house and Schempp Creek, which we didnt make it to.

Some Restaurants to eat at: SouthSide Brewery (downtown) T-Bonz(downtown) Hymanns Seafood(downtown) Sticky Fingers (downtown) Fatz Cafe(N.Charleston) Wild Wings.

That's all I can think of right now. I know it's a lot of info.

Re: Charleston Review

  • i'm going to print this out for reference when we are planning our trip.   sounds like you and b had an awesome vaca!!!
    Kris....I'm finally a Mrs! 10/11/08
  • Kris, we did! It ranks right up there with our trip to San Fran.

And Charleston is known to be one of the most haunted cities. Did you know after they hanged the pirates in Battery Park, they left them there for 3 days and then just thru them in the water. Then parts on the city were built up over the water. A few years ago during construction, some workers discovered bones. How freaking awesome is that!

We also ate at the SouthEnd Brewery...before I knew it was haunted. ha.

  • Awesome!!  And I LOVE that it's so haunted!!  I think I'm adding this to our list of places to visit someday! :)
Causes that are important to me: Planned Pethood Graham's Foundation NOCC
  • Aww, you make me miss it there. It's one of my fav cities and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
