Another poll: What do you consider "walking distance
to downtown?" I was perusing MLS for a friend and it seems like the realtors are sort of liberal with what is considered "walking distance to downtown."

I agree.
We are 0.8 miles from our downtown but to get there you have to take ridiculously hilly pretty residential streets *or* walk down a super steep hill then on a busy street I'm not a big fan of. It just seems too long and not worth the trouble. When we moved in I considered it walking distance. We've walked maybe 3 times in 2 years.
Now, I'd consider 0.5 miles or a flat 0.8 walking distance.

It is exactly one mile from my driveway to "Downtown" (willow glen) and I walk it at least once a week. In fact, when the "good" park isn't under construction (like all last summer) we walked there, picked up lunch, stopped at the library, walked to the park, spent some time, and walked home. The straight walk home is 1.5 miles from the park (intersection to door, according to google maps) and the meandering to get there is 3.5ish.
It's a very pedestrian friendly stroll and on pleasant weather days it's delightful.
(even better - it's .25 miles from our driveway to the doors of the new Fresh and Easy...)
