I need some unbiased opinions on this situation:
DH recently learned that he will be attending a one-day conference in Orlando, FL at the beginning of May (so just 3 short weeks away). He flies in on Thursday evening, attends the conference/luncheon Friday and then is done. His idea was to have me, my 2 year old DS, 5 year old DD and 15 year old DD, fly down on Friday, go to Disney World on Saturday and then everyone fly home together on Sunday.
My response was that it didn't seem worthwhile to spend that kind of money for only 1 day at Disney. We would have to pay for our 4 plane tickets, an extra night in the hotel, plus the Disney and other expenses. We couldn't stay longer because the 5 year old and 15 year old are in school and shouldn't miss any other days. We also have 2 other trips scheduled for the summer that we are going to need money for. I told my DH that although I totally understand his thinking, it seems like if we are going to spend the money to go to Disney - we should do it "right" and spend a week and plan it out better.
My DH thinks I am crazy to let this opportunity pass us by.
Your thoughts? And, just so you know - I am totally open to hearing people say "your DH is right - you are crazy to say no."
Re: Am I crazy to say no? (vacation related)
I totally agree with you. It's not worth only saving the cost of his airfare to take your family to DW for one day.
Never been to DW, but if you're going to do it, you should do it right and from what I've heard you need at least 3-4 days (if not more) to properly see all the parks.
No way would I do that. That is a crazy amount of money to spend on what amounts to a one day vacation.
Judging
I don't see what the "opportunity" is - that your husband is going to be in the Orlando area at the end of a week?? That just sounds like a normal business trip.
Had his employer said "and we'll pay for your wife and family to join you" or given any other incentive, then I could see some glimmer of an "opportunity" - - but as it is now, no. There is no good reason to spend all that money for what would amount to a day trip.
Save the money and plan a longer/better vacation in the future.
I agree with you. I LOVE Disney, and I am 30. I could imagine that the kids might be disappointed if they only got one day there, and then had to leave. You just can't see it all and do it all in that amount of time. It sounds like a ton of fun, but I would plan ahead and go for a longer period of time so that you can take in the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and MGM. There is just so much fun stuff to do that 1 day wouldn't do it for me.
That said, you have just inspired me to get a Disney trip on my calendar sometime in the relatively near future.

Thanks for your comments, everyone.
A little more information in case it changes anyone's opinion- my husband will be staying at a hotel that is right by Disney World (or on Disney World grounds...I don't really know how that works), which is why he thought of this plan and thinks I am crazy for saying no. His thought is that since Disney is right there - how could I say no?
Doesn't really change anything. Sure, there is a great opportunity for him to go because of the proximity he'll have . . . but for you and your children back in MN, nothing changes. You would still have to get yourself down there - with no incentive or justification other than his proximity for a day. Hardly a good reason to spend all that money for ONE day.
Again, if his work was willing to cover part of the expense or he was able to secure some deal to sweeten things, then maybe - - maybe - - -there could be an argument. But as it is now, it just seems like a waste.

I've only been 4 times, but I agree! I also HATE rushed vacations. Spending that much money for that short amount of time is not worth it to me. I wouldn't be able to relax and enjoy it.
