Some flood video

A freind of mine found this and posted on FB this morning.  This is from the 97 flood but it shows my home at the end of the video.  There is a line of houses and there is a big olive green one.  Mine was the smaller white one to the left of it.

This is video from yesterday facing the same bridge in the beginning of the first video.  The flood walls are doing what they should!  :)

Re: Some flood video

  • That's awesome that the flood walls are working :-)

Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • that's super great! i love to see the big flood walls and then the dry vehicles just on the other side. : )

out of curiosity, how far do you have to go to get to the next bridge to cross over then?

  • GF itself have the 3 bridges to go to EGF.  The Point  is the furthest south(which always closes almost right away because it's so low) The Sorlie, more north(which is the one on the video) and the Kennedy  the furthest north.

Point to Sorlie is about a half mile and Sorlie to Kennedy is about a mile.  So it's not a bad drive at all.  Its just ALL traffic then has to go to the Kennedy so it's CRAZY traffic.  (for GF anyway!  lol)  Traffic will be backed up almost a mile to even get over the bridge.  IT's not horrible.  If that one were ever to close, we would have to take the Thompson bridge which is about 9 miles south of GF.

IT's just that in GF it's possible to do south end of town to north end in 10 minutes and with the bridges closed it adds a little extra traffic.   But I live on south end and work on the west end, so it doesn't phase me at all.
