Chris' parents as well as brother, sister-in-law and niece and nephew are coming for Easter. I get along with his sister-in-law, but only because I'm patient and have no interest in rocking the boat. Let's just say we are completely different people.
They usually only come to Ottawa 2 times a year, and when they do they always stay in a hotel. This is the first time they are visiting now that we have the (much bigger) house, so of course I had to extend a polite "you're welcome to stay with us". She hasn't gotten back to me, and I'm crossing my fingers that they'll choose the hotel. The problem: Chris' nephew. He's 6 and literally climbs the walls and his parents don't discipline him at all. I've already told Chris that I want him off of my new leather couch and spending free time downstairs with the movies and Wii.
I feel awful though. If it was my family, I wouldn't even dream of having them stay in a hotel and would want to spend every second with my nieces! The difference there is that my 2 year old niece is MUCH better behaved than the nephew.

Re: I'm a bad Auntie...
Ugh! That's tough! I feel that way about a lot of kids. And I am the same - totally partial to my nephew over Chris' nieces (partly for the same reasons).
Here's my thought...if the parents aren't going to discipline the kids, and they're in your house, you are totally at liberty to do it for them. If he's going to be ruining your things, I see no problem with you politely telling him to stop what he's doing...or even setting rules up front about where he can have food in the house, what rooms he can go into, etc.
Maybe I'm just a B?

TTC Since January 2011 - We have bad spermThis is my to a T!! I have absolutely no problem disciplining my niece and nephew (well technically Lance's), it is my house and my rules, and if you don't want to follow them than you can sit in time out. I do the same thing when we are out with them other places, although, their mom doesn't put up with any sh!t.
I did yell at my nephew a few weeks ago because he thinks that just because he is at the "farm" he can pee where ever he sees fit, even if it is in the barn/work area. First, he peed on the air compressor and then he opened the office door and peed standing in the doorway so there was a large pee puddle that you had to jump over. I had no problem scolding him in front of his parents because I couldn't believe that they allowed him to do that.
Ummmm...I would've lost it.

Yeah, that is pretty much what happened. Now every time he is down at the farm and I am not there but Lance is he calls me and tells me that he peed outside. I am pretty sure I got through to him
