Anyone have an IUD

Did/Do you have an IUD?

Did it work for you?

I have been having a lot of trouble with Birth control pills and am considering an IUD, but I am worried about the Safety of my body while using this device. Such as; The device attaching or going through the wall of the uterus. Possible pregnancy could result in loss of child and fertility, Ovarian cysts.

Even though the percentage is very minimal the IUD can be much more harmful then birth control pills.

Thanks for your input!

  • I don't personally have one, but not have seen real great results with the Mirena IUD. A friend had one, got pregnant and had to have a tube removed. Another was on some medication that was not good for women to get pregnant on. She got it and had the same thing happen. Another friend had polyps grow over her IUD. I have made the decision to pass up getting one. I know this is not very many people, but too many bad things for me. Good Luck!!

    ditto. Love. it.

  • I've had Mirena for 3 years and I LOVE it!!  It was awful to have inserted and I was a little crampy for a month or so, but after that there have been no problems!!  I don't feel it and I have no period.  Set it and forget it!Smile
  • I had the Paragard & it was absolutely amazing! It was perfect for me since medical conditions mean I can't really use anything with hormones, so the plus side was no crazy side effects besides the occasional cramping during the first few weeks but it was no big deal. The only thing for me, since I'm 22 and never had children there was more of a chance that it could come out, which happened. Right now I'm using a NuvaRing and I miss my IUD so much, it was so easy & nothing to have to think about and remember. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

  • I've had the Mirena for 2 1/2 years but am about to switch it out for the ParaGard.
  • Yup. I have the copper one and I love it.

I had a hard 1st month, but since then everything has been good to go!

  • i have the paraguard. i have 1 child. works fine no problems here. i love it
  • Love, love, love the ParaGard! I hated the pill, so switched to the ParaGard IUD now that we're done having kids. Have had no side effects, although I did notice my period is a little heavier and a little longer. I think your period is supposed to go back to normal after 6 months or so.
  • I have Mirena. It is the best. No period for almost all 3 years I have had Mirena. It is worth a little discomfort with the insertion for the benefits of not worrying about BC every day.
  • If you're worried about possibly aborting a baby, don't get mirena.  That one has hormones in it.  Get the copper one which is all natural and has the same effectiveness without hormones (you might not have the problems you had on the pill)  I have the copper one and it's great!! I did have some cramps the first month though.  Hope this helps!

  • I've had Mirena for over a year, and it's been great. There's no way I'm ever going back to birth control pills. Mirena is super convenient, and I've never had a problem with it. I highly recommend the switch. By the way, I'm not so sure that birth control pills are safer than IUD's. Mirena has a crap load less of hormones in them that slowly release through time, and IUD's rarely ever attach or go through the uterine wall. Yeah, there are possible health concerns with IUD's, but there's at least just as many with birth control pills (at least that I'm aware of).

  • I've had friends that had them and then wanted kids, they had multiple mcs after and it took over a year to get pregnant. I've heard that if you do want children later it just takes way longer to get back to ovulating normally once its removed.

  • I have Mirena and I LOVE it. I was always really bad about remembering to take the pill, so an IUD is great for me. I haven't had any children, so the insertion was pretty painful and I felt like crap for the next two weeks or so, but I have had it in for over a year now and have only had one real period in that time. And I've had zero concerns about getting pregnant. Also, the info on Mirena (and my doc) said to be 100% certain you were ready for kids when you decide to take it out, becuase you might be able to get pregnant within a month or so.

    Hope this helps!
