I posted last week about Jeremy losing his job Friday due to lack of work. He was given a severance pay but he won't get it til May 15th and there will be a check tomorrow and another check on the 1st that was held from when he first started working. He's going to turn in his volunteer firefighter application next week when he gets back and also apply to school but that doesn't start til July. Here's the question:
Should he just kinda bum around until school starts and collect unemployment after May 15th (not sure how I feel about this) or apply for jobs around here, either PT or FT, and see if he can find something? I'm pretty sure he could get hired on at another pest control place since he still has his license but he really doesn't want to do that. I have a very strong feeling he'll get extremely bored just sitting around the house all day. Also, I guess I should mention that we're basically a one car household since he has to fix his truck so he'll either have to take me to and from work or be stuck at the house all day.
Sorry that was longer than intended.
Re: What would you do?
I know when Greg was out of work last year he got very bored sitting at home. We were also a 1 car family because my car broke down days after he got laid off. He wanted to go out all the time in the evening and spend money just to get out of the house and do something. I normally took the car to work most days.
Anywhoo, my suggestion I would encourage him to get something just for his and your own sanity. He can get out of the house feel like he is contributing something.
Would he be doing school FT? I know you've mentioned that he has ADHD (or ADD?) before, and speaking as someone who has ADD, I always found that I do better when I'm busy. I always worked during school, and it forced me to really plan out my time, and helped me to do better in school. Just a thought.
I don't know what's best for you guys, but it sounds like if he stayed home or worked PT, it would make YOUR life a lot harder, not his. Can he fix his truck with what he'll be bringing in on UIB, or does he need to work? I'd do whatever he has to do to fix the truck, to at least ease that situation. We have some couple friends who were doing one car for a while (moved from the city where they only needed one) and it caused lots of tension.
If he didn't work/couldn't find a job, then he'd definitely go to school FT and either get the unemployment or work PT. He does have ADD and when he takes his medicine, it's hard for him to sit still (sitting through a movie is almost impossible) because he constantly has to be doing something. And far as him planning his time,I don't know how well he'd do that. His parents pulled him out of school at the end of 8th grade and then he just finished night class a couple nights a week to get his GED a couple months ago so structure and time management isn't something he's used to (not trying to sound like a horrible wife).
His truck can be fixed with a little money which we'll probably pull from savings and get that taken care of. I don't want to do the one car thing just because I'm always having to go from one school to another during the middle of the day for meetings.
Yeah. I hope he'll go that route.
Thanks ladies!
