I knew it was going to be hot when DH and I go to Israel in June and I knew we'd be doing a lot of hiking but I didn't put it together until yesterday when I got a group email from one of the guys in charge reminding everyone to make sure they're in good shape to handle long hikes in the heat.
So two questions:
1. How do you get ready for 90 degrees and high humidity when it's still cool out here? I'm thinking just making sure I can handle way longer/harder hikes here and I'll be okay there? I thought about trying to jog in the steam room at the gym but I think they might kick me out. ![]()
2. What would you pack to wear for hiking? Whenever I go to humid areas, I'm all about light dresses and skirts because I am not good with humidity. BUT that's not really good for hiking. I don't like wearing shorts because I burn really easy but jeans is probably a bad idea. I usually wear jeans when I hike here but we usually take shaded hikes in the summer so it's not that bad.
Thoughts??
Re: Ever hiked in HOT weather?
Try not to wear anything cotton; get as many moisture wicking clothes as you can (they will keep you cool & dry). Get something like a Buff for your head. Sunscreen, bug spray. For pants, I would get something like these. My H has several pairs & swears by them; plus they also unzip to shorts. Shirts I would suggest these. It will really make a difference in keeping your body temp down a lot.
Its hard to "prep" your body for the weather, just make sure to have a LOT of water and make yourself stay hydrated all the time.
