What would you all do??

As you know the kids have pneumonia.  Tristan's been on antibiotics since Tuesday, Mel since Wednesday.  They have been fever free since Tuesday, but they are still coughing.  The pediatrician said as long as they're fever free and on the antibiotics at least 24 hours, they can go back to school.  They only go M-W-F so tomorrow will be the first day they can go back.

However, they are still both coughing pretty good.  So even though supposedly they're not contagious anymore, would you send them tomorrow?  I feel bad because they're both stir crazy in the house (I AM TOO) and next week is school vacation so they won't see their friends for 2 weeks.  Not sure what to do here.

Re: What would you all do??

  • i would keep them home. but you know me with this stuff....

anyway, if you do keep them home ( i know it blows with vacation next week and all), maybe try to get them outside for a bit- to the playground ( if they are up to it) , in the yard,  a walk, maybe to panera for a little lunch - just to get them out for a little?

they probably wont even really realize that it will be such a long time not seeing there friends. plus its only been a week and they probably still need lots of rest... and pushing it too quickly, well, they could relapse right? or maybe who knows with kids, it could morph into another illness.

*i meant to say not even been a week*... and just because they can go back to school after 24 hrs of meds and fever free does not mean that they should. i i say that in general because i know a lot of pedis say that (including some in my practice)

i dont know how to edit as this is my second attempt... but also wanted to say hope they are 100% really soon. i can just imagine how you all must feel stuck in the house and under the weather.

  • i know you are all going stir crazy but i think i'd keep them home one more day. could you guys go to park or something to help with the cabin fever? better to keep them home one more day and have them be 100% when they go back. also, they might be more susceptible to picking up something else if they go tomorrow.

  • I'd keep them home...I agree with Cheeky, hit a playground or go for a walk to get some fresh air and out of the house for a little bit but...keep them home...
