How's your cousin doing -- mentally and physically? I meant to respond to your other post mentioning that the other guy in the accident died. That's rough, even if it wasn't your cousin's fault. Thinking of you guys.

Re: **Cheekygirl**

  • Thanks B.  Physically he is doing ok.  He has been staying with my mom for the past few days and they get up and walk every morning.  His staples come out on monday and then he is released to go back to work on tuesday.  Mentally, I *think* he's "ok" at least as well as can be expected.  We've talked about how there wasn't anything he could have done etc.  I think it's just one of those things that really really sucks and will always be with him for the rest of his life.  As I'm sure anyone can imagine, trying to get an 18 year old guy to talk feelings is like pulling teeth.  I'm trying to get his doctor to push him towards going to talk to a counselor at least once.

  • Yeah, very true. How injured was he?

My husband is a truck driver and that exact situation is something I constantly fear happening. Sad that it ever happens at all.

  • He ended up with 15 staples and a few stitches on the top of his scalp, lots of bruising and a pretty severe concussion.  Luckily, no real brain damage, though I remind him daily that I have seen his skull when they peeled his scalp back to clean and staple.Stick out tongue  Overall, he was incredibley lucky (if you can call it that) because he walked away.

My hubby drives large equipment too and this scares me.  It blows my mind how many people will jump in front of him on the freeway and hit the brakes!  His crane weighs over 100K lbs people!  It takes a whole lot of road to stop it.  He said people have no concept and literally every single time he drives he has people do this, or cut him off or drive in his blind spot.  Scary

  • My dh complains about that too! Especially when he used to have to drive in LA on the freeways. People just get in front of him because there's room and don't realize that 80,000 pounds does not stop as quickly as a Corolla. The good thing is that if he ever is in an accident, he's driving such a big truck that he'll most likely be OK. But the other guy won't. Now he drives a lot of county roads that are notorious for people blowing through stop signs, getting t-boned and killed. Yech, that's got to be even worse to watch happen to your cousin because the risk of it happening to your dh.
