Fitness/running ladies-a Question
Does anyone use a heart rate monitor? I'm looking for a cheap one. Based on the little bit of research I've done, the watch type ones just take your pulse here & there, the ones with a chest strap record your h/r as long as you have it on-so it looks like the strap kind is better (I think??). I'd prefer to spend under $50.
Thanks!

Wow! I would have flunked that assignment when I was in HS!
I have the strappy kind but I got it for free. It's a polar something-or-other. I was using it quite a bit when I got sidelined from running, to see if other cardio was keeping up my heart rate to something comparable to my running heart rate - the Garmin I use for running has a built in heart rate monitor. I also like that it's waterproof, so I can use it in the pool (although I've heard that heart rates run lower in water, something to do with gravity.) And the spin instructors at my gym use heart rate a LOT as a gauge of effort.
However, I think it doesn't matter a whole heck of a lot. I actually am not sure where my strappy thing is at the moment and I haven't missed it a lot lately. I guess it did help, but I have a pretty good idea of where my heart rate is based on how I feel during exercise.
