When do you work out/ go to the gym?

I got Jillian's 30 Day Shred through Netflix in today but literally just sat down so that's not happening.  I can't think of when I will have any time to actually do any kind of workout, its kinda depressing.  My schedule is totally different from DH's so I'd have to wait until both my guys are in bed to do anything and then by 9/9:30 I too damn tired to work out anyway.  And forget going to the gym, I went once last week and hadn't been since sometime this fall before that.  So when or maybe how, do you make time to work out/run/gym?  I've got to get rid of this baby flab thing I've got going on, its gross! Lol

Re: When do you work out/ go to the gym?

  • I go right after breakfast with the kids. I feel like it works best for their schedule... Why not try including them with the video? I could see that maybe working...
  • The 30 day shred is awesome!!! I was doing it at night, but like you hated having to do it late...and I tried doing it right when I got home...but wanted to spend time with the kids, .so just this week I started waking up earlier for work and working out before work...it actually is good for me in that I don't have it hanging over my head and get to spend some more time with the kids at night...I still may go out jogging at night after work, but if I can't get out or I work late or I just am exhausted from work I will have already done something so I won't feel as guilty. I don't go to the gym...it's just too hard for me to get there and have to spend $$...I'm cheap like that :-)

Good luck...it is super hard to find time with the kids and work!!

  • I workout usually right after work so...430pm. If its my day off usually 11am or 2pm. I am so not a morning person. Plus I get up at 5am work days so thats early enough.

    Good Luck !

  • First thing in the morning or it won't happen.  I get up early.  I despise getting up early.

  • This is exactly why I exercise in the morning. If I wait until after work, I either don't feel good b/c I have just had lunch or I am way too tired and have zero motivation. In the morning, when it's done, it's done and it can't be undone if you know what I mean! Too many things can happen during the day to get in the way of exercise. I get up at 5 and throw on clothes and head to my school gym. Then I shower here and run to home room! I miss all the traffic and save money by using school water :-)

  • Another vote for the morning. I switch between mornings and evenings, but I have at least 2-3 days a week where I go to the gym before work. After a little while, you get used to getting up early. The gym is much less crowded and quieter in the morning. You avoid all of the easy excuses that you'd have later in the day, such as I'm tired, hungry, not feeling it, etc.

  • I do all my weekday workouts at night after Lilly is in bed...I get up at 5 just to get ready for work so there is no way I can get up before that to do anything...and I get home anywhere between 6 and 7 at night so really that leaves me time to get her fed, play with her, and then after she is in bed I'm either at the Y or downstairs on the treadmill.  I'm tired and really have no desire to do it but it's the only time I have so I make it work.  When I'm done I'm always happy that I did it.  Everyone is different though with what works for them--but for me, I make it a priority to suck it up and do it at night b/c the mornings just aren't feasible for me.  Weekends are different though and that's nice to be able to get it out of the way first thing.
  • I've always been a morning workout person, but these days I get up at 4:45 just to make sure I have time to get myself ready and out the door by 7am while also getting Benjamin ready for the day. And most evenings, I don't sit down to relax until around 8:30 and even then...I'm pumping. lol.

I'm still trying to get used to this whole working mommy thing though. I"m hoping that once I get used to the routine and Benjamin is sleeping a little more predictably, I can at the very least get a DVD workout in a couple nights a week. Mornings, unfortunately, just aren't an option for me right now. I'm also considering going to the gym on campus during my lunch hour once the students leave for the summer. That would probably be the ideal solution for me, except for having to carry a gym bag, pump bag and work bag on the train...ugh. We'll see. I have to figure it out soon though. I can't stand feeling so lazy.

  • I go after work.  When i was still married I would go at 5:00 am before work.

It is so important to make time for yourself.  I take Ella with me and she hangs in the day care there.  She loves it and if I tell her we are going and I end up not going for some reason she lets me hear it.
