I know this is bad but in years past I have laid in the tanning bed to get a little tan before summer hit and so I did not get fried. Well not this year I am wearing lots sunscreen and really protecting my skin. My mom had precancerous spots on her chest last year and I have seen atleast 5 girls my age with skin cancer.
So this past weekend was a huge event at my alma mater....baseball game, football scrimmage, pig cooking contest, concerts, etc...so we were outside ALL weekend.
Anyways Saturday at the baseball game I wore a tank dress and lots of sunscreen and I still got some pink shoulders and arms. We walked over to a friends tailgate and she looked at me and said "hmm I see you have not been to the tanning bed yet". I told her my reasoning and I was really concious of my skin now and wanted to protect it. And her response "well I dont care if I get skin cancer as long as I look good now". Really cause I dont want skin cancer and I dont want to look 50 when I am 30. Some people. And I know I live in the South and so many girls tan all year and a lot think it is ok but really the risks are too scary! Spray tan here I come!
Re: The Nerve....
I like to see what she says when she gets skin cancer. I burn easily out in the sun so I try not to get out in the sun that much or put a lot of sunscreen on.
Wow, she is really ignorant. Does she not understand that skin cancer KILLS too?!
My grandmother has had skin cancer a few times, and I dont tan ever bc of that. I dont sit outside to get sun, so I am very pale usually. Everyone is always on my case trying to get me to be tan, but I dont want to risk it.
I love spray tans! If you have something called a mystic tan, do that. It makes your skin so moisturized and soft, and I didnt look orange at all. I did it a few summers ago before I went to Vegas.
wow! she'll change her tune in about 10 years. whether she gets cancer or not all that sun/tanning will definitely show itself on her skin in a few years.
there's girls i went to hs with that tanned very frequently in hs and still do and they look so old! leather faces to the max.
i've gone a few times in the past. like in hs every one was doing it and I gave in a few times. But once I started reading up on it, I totally quit. I seriously see them as big ol' cancer boxes.
I also load up on the sunscreen and am kind of annoyingly persistent that others put it on when they're around me too. My FSIL puts on freaking baby oil to tan!!
I just bought some new gradual tanning stuff at walmart the other day. the jergens kind just has too much of a funky smell to it. The new stuff isn't too bad. I've only used it once, so I don't know how well it works. We shall see! If not though, I'm cool with being pale.
