Has anyone moved their child to a regular booster seat?

Maya is very tall and over 40 pounds.  She's still within the range for our Britax Boulevard, but we are moving Cam to the convertible seats and instead of splurging on another Britax, we are just moving Maya to a booster.

I'm struggling with finding a seat.  We got the basic Evenflo booster with a high back, but I can't fight this feeling if it's safe enough.  I noticed some seats with side impact protection foam rather than just the side impact "tested", but I'm not sure if it's something worth the extra money.

I'm also reading that it's not so much the seat itself, but how the seat fits your vehicle and how your child fits in the seat.  Maybe it's just the fact that she's in a booster seat that's basically plastic with a little padding and just the seat belt making me feel like she's less protected than the actual seat itself.

Anyway, I'm kind of rambling now and I guess I'm just looking for advice on how you decided on a booster when your child moved to it.   High back or backless?  Side impact foam or not?  Etc....  TIA!

  • I think they are supposed to have a high back belt positioning booster for awhile. We ended up going with a Graco Nautilus.. It has a 5 pt harness up to 65 lbs, then becomes a high back booster and then just a plain booster. It gets rave reviews online and from my friends... I think it was about $130 but I felt safer with Ava in a 5 point booster for now..

  • I can tell you what my sister did, her boys are older (9&5) and she still has them in the high back ones, and they're the side impact protect ones. I'd go for one of those. As much as it sucks to splurge on aother seat, but I'd rather buy intot he gimick and have the sides protected too. GL!
