T&P Request & Help please

Good morning ladies!

My BFF is 35 weeks pregnant and went into the hospital on Tuesday because she was seeing spots and had really high BP. After being in for a couple days, doing the 24 urine collection and a multitude of other tests it has been confirmed that she has Pre-E. They have decided to keep her in the hospital and induce at 37 weeks. (If not sooner if something changes.)

They did an U/S yesterday and her little guy is currently about 4 lbs but all of his organs seem to have developed nicely and they aren't concerned other than his small size. The hospital she is at has a level 3 NICU if needed so that is good.

Anyway please send good thoughts for mom and baby to stay safe and healthy until 37 weeks.

Now my questions. If you were going to be stuck in the hospital for 2 weeks what would you want to entertain yourself? I'm going to put together a little gift for her when I go see her Sunday.

I was supposed to go spend the day with her Sunday going through all of his baby clothes and helping her sort and do laundry. Her hubby is now going to bring all the clothes to the hospital so I can do it there with her.

Next question: Do you ladies know anywhere that sells Preemie clothes? I don't recall ever seeing anything at Target or BRU.

Re: T&P Request & Help please

  • buy buy baby has premie clothes. from what I've seen on Multiples though most people just get a couple of shirts and roll up newborn clothes because they grow so fast.

I hope she can keep him cooking a few more weeks.  If she does have to deliver early, the good news is past 34w the babies are generally just feeder/growers (so NICU time but not on oxygen etc generally).

ETA:: most hospitals have wi-fi now. do you have a netflix subscription for watching movies? does she knit or crochet?

  • I was just going to say I think Buy Buy Baby has preemie clothes but at 4lbs he should grow pretty quickly (I was a bit over 4lbs full term when I was born).

Definitely netflix... magazines... maybe a board game. Is she feeling ok? I know a friend who had pre-e was pretty out of it a lot so I'm not sure she felt like doing much.

Thinking about them and hope everything goes smoothly!

  • My local BRU has a small preemie section for both boys and girls.  I'd add in some word searches and Madlibs to a care package to help occupy her over the next two weeks.  Lots of T&P headed her way.

I'd try Babies R Us, too for premie clothes. Like Emily said, they grow out of them quickly, though. The wins were both just over 4 pounds and only wore them for a couple of weeks if I recall correctly. The twins were born at 36 weeks. Brynn was 4lbs 5oz and went home with my SIL. Landon was slightly bigger and was only in the NICU because they had to cut through his placenta to get to him so he wasn't breathing when he was born. Once they put him in there, he has to hit the special milestones to be released, though. I'm sure your friend and baby will be ok. There are some great healthcare facilities up there by you.

As far as stuff to do, movies would be good. You can even watch DVDs on a laptop if there is no other way. Books and magazines would be my other suggestion.

  • Thanks ladies. I really don't ever recall seeing preemie stuff at BRU but I will check. And until Emily said it I forgot that we just got a Buy Buy Baby around here.

Thanks for the ideas on things to occupy mom. She is feeling pretty good so I do want to make sure she has some things.

  • Tons of t&p to your friend.

I know Buy, Buy baby has preemie stuff.

You can try some places like Marshalls, Ross or TJ Maxx. Maybe Macy's??

  • movies,  a lap top if she doesn't have one, books from the library

Also if she can eat 80+ gms of protein a day it will likely help keep the Pre-E in check, Studies have shown that eating 80+ a day will keep it away some I'm sure it would probably help it not get worse.

I pray she gets to keep cooking that baby til 37 weeks!
