There is post on one of the toddler boards about moms not using hotel tubs for the LOs. There's a lot of pearl-clutching about never using hotel tubs, etc., but I dont' see what the concern is. And, then someone said there are "germs" in the bathrooms - which "duh" but really, so what? Unless your kid is licking the toilet bowl (shudder) what exactly are they goign to pick up from a bathtub?
And, then someone brought up beds, which I thnk you could pick up something - lice or bed bugs from a previous occupant; also you could be sleeping in somebody else's bodily fluids, etc. I try to stay in nice hotels and I tend to take off everything except the actual sheets, that's no guarantee of anything.
Do you bring your own sheets or one of those bedliner things or just roll with it?
Re: are you bothered by hotel bathtubs or beds?
I always bring a bottle of Lysol and a rag when we stay at hotels and clean the tub, toilet and sink area, as well as all of the door knobs and remote controls. I still put Ava in the shower with me though but I wouldn't have a problem with her taking a bath since I cleaned it.
I do check the mattress for bed bugs. Like you, I take off the comforter and just leave the sheets on the bed. I don't bring a mattress cover.
I love hotel beds. I love the pillows and how the down comforter is somehow not too hot to sleep under. Maybe I'm naive, but whatever.
I never thought too much about the bathtubs. I've never taken a bath in a hotel, only a shower.

Yes, they skeeve me out because you don't know what kinds of freaky things in there people were doing before you. you also don't know how thoroughly the tub was cleaned. I would not use the tub (I mean sit in it) unless I cleaned it myself first. I mean let's face it, people like to have sex in hotels. I avoid touching the comforter for that reason too. And you know-its not like that gets washed on a regular basis.
The whole bedbug thing really set me over the edge. I am so scared of bedbugs, just because I've heard horror stories of people bringing them back from a hotel and then spending thousands of $ trying to eradicate them from their house.
Nope, not bothered at all. I don't lay on the bedspread in a hotel unless its a nicer hotel and has a down comforter with a duvet, bc I'm assuming they change the duvet (but who knows), I sleep on the sheets, etc.
I'm also really good at blocking out thoughts of bed bugs and the like.
Eh, I don't worry so much because it's just DH and I. I would imagine I might feel differently once we have kids.
My parents were always particular about the beds and bathrooms when we went on vacations. We weren't allowed to lay on the comforters/blankets (since they don't get washed), and they always checked to make sure the sheets and bathroom were clean.
The problem with bringing your own sheets is that you bring them home...and bring home anything that might have been in the hotel bed. Like bed bugs ::cringes::

No I don't travel with cleaning supplies. I'm just saying if I wanted to take a bath at a hotel, I would clean the tub first, but I have never been in situation where I wanted to take a bath at a hotel. So its kind of n/a to me.
I've also never stayed at a hotel with DS so that has never come up either.
I usually take a travel pack of clorox wipes. I am more concerned with wiping light switches/door knobs than the shower/toilet though. Except when we went on our cruises. I wiped every single surface in those rooms. They have to turn them over SOOOOO fast, there is no way that they get super clean.
I check for bedbugs, and only put my bags/clothes on hard surfaces. I don't take baths in hotels, but the showers do freak me out. They always seem icky, no matter how nice the hotel.
Is it normal to take baths in hotels? (if you don't have children.) That has never occurred to me.
I usually take sheets with me if we are in the car, but hands down that comforter is removed and tossed in the closet immediately.
Showers skeeve me out in most hotels/condo rentals. Now that I have DC, I will take stuff to clean the tub prior to using it.

Hotels in general really creep me out germ-wise. To be honest, since DS has been born we've stayed in a few hotels and I have never even let him take a bath (we're usually just staying over night mid 2-day travel). If we ever stayed in a hotel longer, it would have to be a nicer hotel and if the bath was dirty/had mold/mildew, I would ask for a new room or for housekeeping to come clean it while I am in the room. The beds are another story....depending on the hotel chain, I don't usually use the comforter or the blanket. Just the sheets and I try to bring my own pillows (mainly because I am allergic to down). And now that bed bugs are apparently running rampant, I do check in every hotel for bed bugs before I get in the bed.
Aaaand one other thing that really freaks me out about hotels are the floors! I do not under any circumstances go barefoot in any hotel; no matter how nice the chain is or if it's carpet/tile. And now that DS can walk, I make him wear his shoes in the room at all times also.
