Easter plans

Sort of inspired by Stees's egg post:).....

Is anyone doing anything for Easter this year? My mom used to do a big dinner, but we don't go home for that anymore.

We don't have plans but I sort of want to make a nice big brunch and have some friends over. But then....that sounds like a lot of work! :)

I've always thought it would be fun to go to the White House Easter Egg Roll too, but I didn't think of that early enough this year to get a ticket. It could be really bad and crowded though, I really have no idea!

What about you guys?!

Re: Easter plans

  • I like to refer to Easter as my belated Ostara celebration. =)  As we're not Catholic, but our families are, they insist that we come to dinner on Easter Sunday, and who am I to pass up a delicious ham?

Actually, this year is a little different, as Chris' family is OOT visiting SIL and her FI in Texas.  We're going to be OOT ourselves for our first night away without Sami that Saturday night, so my mother will have her on Easter Sunday.  My parents don't attend church, so I don't have to worry about that, and as my mother is having people over her house for dinner, I'm letting her get Sam all dressed up to show her off.  We'll be by her house house eventually to get Sam, so I hope there's some food left for us when we get there! ;D

  • We were hoping to host a big dinner for some friends and family - but that's not going to happen with the current mess that is our kitchen/dining area! So, it might just be the two of us...we will make a special dinner, though. And we will start the day off at mass and wear pretty Easter clothes - well, I will Wink.

  • We have a big tradition where we all bring something to eat for Easter to my Mom's house and we fill & hide eggs for the kids. My mom owns a ton of land so it's a very big Easter egg hunt. We've been doing it since I was born. This tear I'm making lemon cupcakes with lemon buttercream frosting. Yum!
  • We never do anything for Easter.  This year, my aunt and two cousins from NY are supposedly coming for a few days so they can pick up my sister and take her to NY with them for spring break.  She tends to not come through with plans so who knows if that will happen.  The day after Easter, we plan on buying chocolate on sale.

  • We're going to a Brewer game. H bought the tickets 2 months ago and didn't realize it was Easter.. oops! We generally don't do much anyway.

  • My grandmother on my dad's side used to do Easter but she's no longer with us. Then my mom did Easter for a while, but only because my dad liked it. Now my dad's no longer with us either. So now no one in my family is particularly religious (and Jon's family is Jewish) so we don't do anything.

Although last year we had a lovely outing with my mom & sister where we got dim sum and then cupcakes and tea in Providence...so maybe we'll make that our new traditional Easter meal :o)

  • We are hoping baby lee will make an appearance so we can miss some of the festivities- however, I know that wont happen. We are going to my aunts house for a small cookout. Its laid back and very relaxed. I am glad there isnt much going on. I dont think I can handle a big event. My aunt hides eggs even though the youngest is 14 and we usually hunt for the surprise egg that has 20 bucks in it and one with a gift card to starbucks. Its usually a good time!

  • Not much. MIL is going to be OOT and Jon works so I dodged the bullet on that one this year!

I am most likely going to my Nana's house in the morning and a dinner by my Aunt's house.

  • We'll go to church that morning. Then, my mom is hosting a big family brunch. I sent her stees' Easter eggs. We may have to make them for a centerpiece. :-) After that, we'll go to Robin's parents for a family dinner and Easter egg hunt with the kids. We always get to be the egg hiders.

  • We don't have any.  I wanted to go to Boston and see the nephew, but H doesn't want to intrude.  We'll probably sleep in and hang out.

  • I want to take El to an egg hunt. Other than that, not much!
  • Every year we go to Niagara Falls and spend Easter weekend with about 50 of H's extended family.  Coming from a small family, it was overwhelming at first (Easter brunch was 70 people in a restaurant private room) but it has gotten a little smaller and more relaxed over the years, and these people are SO much fun and welcoming.  Plus, I love going to the Falls.

I'm not sure it is something that we will continue to do after having kids (and I doubt that if I'm pregnant next year that I'll want to drive 8 hours to get there), but we look forward to it every year.

Plus H's birthday is that Saturday.

  • We're just going to my Grandma's. Nothing spectacular.
Baby, you've got the sort of eyes that tell me tales...

  • Usually we go to ILs for dinner. I have to work this year, though, so we won't be doing anything.
