H and I do our alumni duty and meet with/interview perspective students for the college that we went to (which is a prestigious school although H and I are sooo not the "I'm special because I went here" types) . There is going to be an accepted student reception this weekend for the students, their parents, and the local alumni interviewers. The reception is being held at the house of a recent grad's parents....which oh by the way...is in THE nicest neighborhood in Houston (zillow says house is 7mil+). I have no idea what to wear to this thing. if I was a guy, I'd just slap on some khakis and a button up and be fine but I don't know if this is a khakis and casual top event, pencil skirt and blouse, or a cute dress kind of like this (but my pattern is cuter and does have the school colors in it)
What would nesties wear?!
Re: WWNW: What would nesties wear?
Ditto this.
Anything before 6 pm in the late spring/summer you should be ok (and as someone who worked for a university, MUCH is forgiven if school colors are involved!). If it's an evening reception the dress might still work but 'fancy' it up with sparkly necklace, heels, etc. Daytime you could do flats or sandals.
PS - I've been known to show up early to an even in a basic dress with bags of accessories and shoes in the car. Then hide in the parking lot, watch what people are wearing, and accessories to match the throngs.
What kind of food are they serving?
Off to the beach

I see nothing wrong with this!
OP- I think this dress is very versatile. I think sandals would like great (and maybe you could have heels w/ you just in case you find out it's more formal?).
Agreed. And cute heels. And bring a cardigan.
I think that would be perfectly acceptable for an afternoon function. I would just make sure that your shoes aren't too casual.
The real deal though is I want to see this 7 million+ house.
