What is it with....

....DH job issues???  So with having been at work for 1 week and 1 day, DH is now on his way home (he is supposed to go for at least 3 weeks).  His company is very "fire happy" b/c it is basically run by two egotistical tyrant brothers and they love to fire or suspend people when they are having a bad day.  Example:  DH's exchange captain was fired on a whim for something so tiny.  He had no notice after 15 years with the company....he had no suspensions or black marks.  Talk about loyalty to employees.

So anyway, DH is suspended for 2 weeks for something that was totally out of his control (his barge is 1 foot too wide to go thru locks to Canada??!?!).  The CEO told him to call after 2 weeks to see if he can come back.  In the meantime Dave will be looking for jobs with other companies.  We also have a friend that owns a marine sales and service place where Dave may be able to get some hours.  My major concern is health insurance right now.  OK, I am rambling, time to sign off.  Ick just so upset/annoyed/scared.

Re: What is it with....

  • That sucks. I'm sorry. This would be stressful and upsetting at anytime, but I'm sure it's even worse with a new baby at home. You still have insurance while he's suspended, right? Hopefully he'll come home (yay for having him home!) and then he'll find a better job with a more stable employer. Fingers crossed for better opportunities!

  • That's absurd! I'm surprised no one has ever fought back against their firing tactics. I hope he finds something much better soon!

  • That is crazy that they are suspending him for that.  I hope he is able to find a better job during these 2 weeks.

Yeah...that sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

  • I said the same thing about lawsuits, but supposedly the company has these killer lawyers so that they can fight the wrongful dismissal suits as well as all of the claims for unemployment (b/c I mentioned claiming unemployment to DH if he gets fired).  I used to think that Dave exaggerated all of this, but when his exchange captain was fired (whom he has worked with for 6 years) I started to understand that it really is as bad as DH said.

  • Wow, I'm so sorry!  Hopefully this is a blessing in disguise and he will find something better.

  • Sorry that your are dealing with this. Hope he finds a different employer while he is home.
  • I agree with Jodi, I hope this is a blessing in disguise for your family. What a PITA to deal with, though.

  • Wow, that really blows.  I hope he finds something else or his current situation stabilizes.
