car accident- kinda long

So my life has been consumed with an event that I took place.  I was driving through an intersection on 4/1 and a pick up truck going the opposite direction made a left hand turn into my car.  I am physically OK, but my car is totalled.  I was 2 hours away from home which caused a bit of a headache getting it back to Cleveland.  My car was 6 months old!  So the insurance company (the other driver's) originally offered me $5,000 less than my pay off amount.  I was livid.  Why should I have to pay out thousands of dollars for an accident not my fault?

So..we filed a claim with our insurance and they came back $6,000 less!  WTF!  So I I have been fighting with the insurance every day.  We even contacted our lawyer who said that unless I have a medical claim there was little he could do.

So I finally go the insurance to be within $4000 and settled.  I also found out that I will get a return from an extended warranty we had for about $1700.

Now I am off to buy a new car.  I can't afford a new one because we don't have a down payment like we did with the first one.  I am trying to get a used one that is the same make and model that mine was.

This has been very stressful and overwhelming.  My advice to anyone is that if you buy a new car, get gap insurance.  This would have prevented us from owing anything.

Sorry so long.

  • I am so sorry!  Totally sucks that you are out that money AND have to get an older car!  GAP insurance is totally the way to go.

Take care of yourself and try not to stress to much!  At least you get to go on vacation in a few weeks.

  • Oh no!  I'm so happy that you're okay, though.  It really blows that you have to pay more and get a used car, but at least you didn't get hurt.  Just keep your head up and try to focus on that positive (oh, and the fact that you get a vacations soon).
  • That sucks!!  I hope you find a new one soon.

  • Oh my goodness poor thing! :-(  I'm glad you weren't hurt, but I'd still be so POed if it were me.

I had a hit and run in a parking lot, (this witch in a red car backed into my car door, and then took off, and I tried to get out and chase after her to catch the license plates, but thanks to her, my door was jammed shut!) and I had to shell out a $500 deductible to get it repaired and I.was.livid.

No way does it feel good to pay for something that wasn't your fault. Sorry you're dealing with this!
