QOTD Friday

Have you ever gone to the movies by yourself? If you haven't, would you? Why or why not?

Re: QOTD Friday

  • Yes! When we lived in Bloomington for DH's grad school and he was gone travelling, I'd go to the movies often alone. They had the 5 Buck club where after a movie was out 2 weeks, it was only $5 for any showing, so I'd go over on Sat. or Sun. afternoons most weekends and watch movies.

Eventually I made a few friends and one would go with me, but for the first year or so I pretty much went alone. Never bothered me except one time when there was literally no one else in the theater until the movie started, then only 2 other couples came in. I felt like a loner, lol.

  • I never have before, but there's two smaller theaters near my house and I told my mom I was thinking about going and she freaked out. She thinks it's not safe and someone will "get me." Her exact words were "a man might GET you!!!" lol

  • No. I honestly don't enjoy going to the movie theatre. I would much rather wait until a movie comes out on video.

  • Before I met DH I would go to the movies once a week alone.  I usually went on a Sunday afternoon to see a cheesy chick flick.  I loved going by myself b/c I wouldn't have to deal with anyone talking to me during the movie.

haha. I love moms! This is similar to my mom thinking that everything I do,"might kill me."

I never have & I don't think I would. Mostly because when I watch a movie by myself I like to be snuggled up on the couch with a glass of wine (& the bottle close by.)

  • I have once when I was younger. I think my mom went to one movie and I went to another. I don't like it though. But I also don't like the movie theater in general. Too many annoying people.

  • I haven't. H and I love the movies so we always go together. If it's a chick flick that he doesn't want to see my SIL goes with me.

    This totally cracked me up.

I haven't been, but I would. I tend to only see movies in theaters if it's something I REALLY want to see (usually a movie based on a book, or a series that I'm a huge fan of). The recent ones I can think of are the HP movies, the Twilight movies, the Star Trek movie (yes, I'm a trekkie), and Serenity (I love Firefly, and Nathan Fillion). A lot of those aren't exactly recent so that gives you an idea. Movies are just so damn expensive that I have trouble justifying the cost. I'd rather rent it from Netflix and drink some wine at home while I watch. If I wanted to see a certain movie really badly though and nobody would come with me, then yes, I'd go by myself. Wow...that was a long response to get to my point.

  • I've only done that once. I was on travel in Alabama for 2 weeks by myself (no other coworkers were on this particular trip.) So that weekend I went to see a movie and then snuck into another one after the first was over. It was a little weird before the movie(s) started but completely normal while it was playing.
  • Yes!  I don't mind it at all.  I also have gone out to eat by myself, but I usually bring a magazine or a book :)

  • I don't generally go to movie theaters that much, maybe three times a year, so probably not.

  • Yes, I saw Black Swan by myself.  I think that's the only time I have gone by myself though.  I would do it again.  I used to feel bad for people who were eating dinner or at the movies or doing another activity by themselves.  I am sure that some of them actually were lonely, which still makes me sad, but others enjoyed the time for themselves (like I did!)

  • I haven't, but I'm not a fan of going to the movies.
  • I have not.  I suppose I would though.  I keep wanting to go....for the popcorn, mostly.
  • I have gone to the movies by myself in the past. These days, I rarely go to the movies at all, alone or otherwise. But I don't see a problem with going alone at all! It is an activity that is ideal to do solo.

  • I don't have a problem with doing it, but I haven't because I prefer smarting off at movies with my friends/DH.

Ditto.  We almost never go to the movies.  I'd rather just watch it at home on DVD in bed.
