I posted months ago about my 9 year old severely austistic nephew needing brain surgery.
Well, he goes in today for pre-op stuff (testing and whatnot) and the surgery is early next week. My sister is doing pretty well - she says she's trying not to think about it too much. Her husband is taking time off of work and will essentially be living at the hospital with their son while my sister stays home to take care of the three younger kids. My father will be there for a bit too to help out and watch the kids so my sister can be at the hospital when the actual surgery is happening.
Everyone is optimistic. Although their primary neurosurgeon - who they loved - has left (their late son had two brain surgeries from that guy and they trusted him with, well, their lives!), their new surgeon is supposedly amazing and comes with excellent reviews. He is confident they can remove the tumor - even though the location smack-dap in the center of the brain - and that my nephew will have a full recovery. The risk of stroke is tiny (1%, I think) - so they aren't even allowing themselves to think of the "what ifs" and they are concentrating their energies on remaining positive.
So, I'm calling in those promises of vibes and prayers and asking the universe to please please please be kind to my sister, my nephew and their family. They need it and after all they've been through, they deserve it!
