grrr.

I have a friend who is notoriously unreliable, but since we only have one car I took her up on her offer to take me to a bridal shower today.   Now I regret it.  Originally she was going to pick me up at noon for a location 45 hours away - great!  Then she said 12:15 would be better, and I said that it would be ok as long as she thought we could make it on time - I was pretty skeptical but she IS the one driving.

Well, at 12:15 I got a text from her saying she's running late and won't be here til 12:45.  I am mortified at the thought of showing up to this shower at least 30 minutes late (with no traffic), because we won't know anyone there but the bride.  I wish I could just wear a sign that says, "I promise I'm responsible and this isn't my fault".  I'm sure my friend will be texting the entire time anyway.  This is so embarrassing.

Additionally, she said she'd let me know when she's on her way, and I still haven't heard from her (at 12:41), so even 12:45 is looking less likely.  Sigh.

Re: grrr.

  • Now it's 12:46.  My phone reminder just went off that the party starts in 15 minutes.  Huh?

I should have just made my own plans and left Jeff without a car.  I hate being late, it actually makes me anxious.

  • Eck Im the same way!!! Im sorry :-( I have learned this lesson the hard way a couple times.
  • I know I should know better.  As I sit here freaking out (2 minutes before the party starts), I keep telling myself that at least this way, I'm not by myself at the party with no one to talk to, and I can blame the tardiness on my friend.

    RIGHT?

Edit: my computer clock is slow, it's actually 1:01.  If she's much later, I may just tell her we should skip it.

  • I would skip it as of now. I can't stand showing up late!
  • I just texted her to ask if she was close.  She replied no, she's half an hour away.  She still has to pick up another girl before getting me.  I told her that maybe we should skip it.

  • FFFUCCK. She said, 'No no, we won't skip it, we'll just be super late.  [the bride] will understand."

    two things:

    1.  I don't want to show up over an hour late, to anything.  I have been known to skip class rather than be ten minutes late.

    2.  The bride will NOT understand, and I have no idea if the hosts will, either.  She's pretty particular.

  • HOW does someone plan this poorly?  She's blaming it on traffic/the rain, but obviously this is poor planning, we're going to be TWO HOURS late.

  • 25 minutes ago she told me she'd be here in 20 minutes.

  • sorry this is happening, Laura!!  So frustrating!!  Don't let her push you around though - if you really don't want to go anymore, just be firm and tell her that it's not worth it.  It's a sticky situation if she's been telling you she's still coming and I'd feel guilty if she shows up after all this and you don't end up going, but if she's a reasonable person she'll understand why hopefully!

Me too.  Even though it means I'm usually the only person there for ten minutes!

So, she and the other girl kept saying it would be fine and I felt like a big stick-in-the-mud.  She showed up eventually, and we got there about two hours late.  It doesn't seem like we missed much, though, because there was still food out, and people were still eating, and the presents weren't opened yet.  It was fine - I was embarrassed, but everyone seemed okay with it (probably that had something to do with the free-flowing sangria).

I hated being late but felt a lot better once we got there and everyone was super nice, and we hadn't missed anything.

Ugh, same here.  I'm always having to rush H out the door.  For wedding appointments, he would always say that "brides are notoriously late."  Um, that is (a) not true, and (b) even if true, still not okay.

    Hope you made it okay!

Glad it all worked out!  Sounds like it may have actually started late / others arrived late if you hadn't really missed anything!

  • I'm glad it ended up ok and you feel good about it once you got there, but the whole thing before would have driven me totally nutso.
