Tell me about your small cars

Hi ladies! I need to hear your thoughts, likes/dislikes, regrets, and raves about your small(er) cars! DH and I need to trade in the SUV for something more gas efficient since I'll be driving 110 miles roundtrip 5 days a week for work. (Yuck.) So...

Make/Model-

MPG-

Favorite feature/least favorite feature-

One thing you would change-

TIA!

What do you mean that's the wrong side? Tastes great to me!

Re: Tell me about your small cars

  • I drove a 4 door Honda Civic LX for years. It got around 40 mpg on the highway. I loved that car! I really have zero complaints. DH still drives it for his commutes, but it is 12 years old now and we haven't calculated mileage recently.

  • Ooh! My dream car is a Prius. Here's what I drive right now: Make/Model- Toyota TercelMPG- I'm not sure, I've never calculated. At least 30 though, I know.Favorite feature/least favorite feature- The gas mileage and its overall reliability. So far it's been a great little car. I love knowing that I'm not guzzling gas when I drive it. I don't know how Hummer drivers sleep at night.  One thing you would change- I wish it were a tiny big broader, like the size of a Civic or something. On windy days I feel like I'm getting blown all over the road. I'm not, obviously, but it's just a weird sensation.

    Make/Model- Honda Fit, 2009

MPG- between 30-33 most of the time, maybe a little more if it's all highway.

Favorite feature/least favorite feature- quick response so I can drive aggressively if I want to, or get out of the way if I need to/it's hard to push it past 70, which isn't a big deal in OK but if you go to say, Montana, where the interstates are 75, it's a little difficult. It just runs a little high and sounds like it's about to take flight lol. Another favorite feature is that it looks small on the outside, so no one asks me to haul things for them, even though there is a lot of room on the inside!

One thing you would change- Maybe a little more power, but honestly, for the kind of driving I do, it's great! Safety is good, great mpg, comfy, and surprisingly roomy and can haul a lot of stuff.

  • Make/Model- 2006 Toyota Corolla

    MPG- 33-36mpg

Favorite feature/least favorite feature- Favorite feature is the size.  We don't have any kids yet, but even with a couple of car seats in the back it has plenty of room, but is still small enough that I love driving it.  It drives very sporty and makes driving it enjoyable.

Least favorite feature: I wish that it had more perks.  It is an older model so maybe the new ones have upgrades but I would love to have controls on the steering wheel, bluetooth, etc.  I also wish it had a better warranty.  3 years, 36,000miles is pretty standard but I am considering going with a Kia for my next car because of the amazing warranty.

One thing you would change- There isn't really anything I would change about it other than the warranty and upgrading to more perks.

  • I drive a 2000 Honda Accord. I haven't calculated my mpg in town recently, but I think it's in the mid-20s. With highway driving, I get around 30-32 mpg.

I like having a backseat that can fold down, so I can put long things (like my bike) in the trunk and have them extend into the passenger compartment. It has plenty of room in the backseats for passengers, and you can put a lot of stuff in the trunk. That's not really anything I don't like about my car. It's incredibly reliable.  The only change I would make is adding radio controls to the steering wheel, but the newer models probably already have them.

    Make/Model- Honda Accord

MPG- 26-32mpg. I wanna say our last trip to NM we got close to 36 mpg

Favorite feature/least favorite feature- Favorite? The heated seats! More seriously, it's comfortable. I have a ton of leg and head room. Maybe not a problem for you but your hubby would probably appreciate it!

Least - the navigation in it blows.

One thing you would change-Ours is a 2009 model and there were recalls on 2008ish models for the brake pads wearing out quicker than they should. We had to change ours around 25,000 miles. Hopefully they got that fixed in newer models.

  • Make/Model- Toyota Camry MPG- 29/30Favorite feature/least favorite feature-  Favorite - It was cheap! Least Favorite- The lack of memory seats. One thing you would change-  If I had a choice, I would have more features like leather seats and blue tooth....   I also like that it is full sized and gets as good of gas mileage as a lot of the smaller cars.  I can easily fit B and two adults in the back seat.
  • Dh drives a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, it gets great gas mileage. It has the suitability of a full size (3 passengers in back, huge trunk) with the gas mileage of a smaller vehicle, he gets 35 on highway.

His car also has a load of features such as bluetooth, XM radio, and I love the interior. I ALWAYS drive his car when I go out of the area such as Dallas, Lawton, or Ada.

  • If I were in the market for a new fuel efficient car, I would get a new Elantra.  I think the base model is around $15k.  Not only are they soooo sexy, but the gas mileage on those babies is incredible.
  • We looked at those yesterday stripes. The salesman told me that it's nearly impossible to get one right now. They had one on the whole lot, and there were probably 15 people in line to test drive it. He said they are only scheduled to get one every 1 1/2 weeks until after the summer! Apparently a lot of people are lusting after them! It was nice. The one that they had wasn't the package that I wanted, nor the color. I asked him if we could order one from Hyundai, he basically said not unless we wanted to wait a year.

I drove a Mazda3 yesterday, and I think I'm in lust. Nolan had a meltdown before we could finish looking at everything, but on the short list is a Honda Civic, Kia Forte, and a Ford Fusion.

  • I have a small SUV: Jeep Compass. I traded my pretty lil' mustang convertible for it once I had LO. I love it! I am soooo used to a sports car, but this thing is great. I get around 30 mpg on highway. I get the great cargo type space for groceries and storage for a hefty stroller, and I have 4whl drive, which is a BIG deal to me driving a baby on ice.
  • We just traded in my 2007 Volvo S40 for a 2008 VW Passat Wagon. I *love* our new wagon, but the Volvo was fantastic (attached a pic for reference). It was sporty, but not over-the-top, small, but somehow roomy on the inside, had super nice leather interior, great gas mileage (appx 30mpg highway), I am still in love with that car. I had it for two years, and never had any issues. The exterior is pure class, and the interior is posh. Plus, it's nice that you don't see as many Volvos on the road as Toyotas, Hondas, Mazdas, etc. 2007 Volvo S40
  • I have a 2009 Nissan Sentra. I really like especially for the mileage we get on it. Sorry, can't really tell you the exact number, but I will tell you that I drive from Norman to Yukon 5 days a week and only fill it up at the end of the week. I do like that it's pretty roomy and I can fit a lot in the trunk (stroller and a full weeks worth of groceries).

The only thing that I really hate about it is when we go get the oil changed that it's pretty expensive since it's a foreign made car. When we take DH's truck we spend about $20 with my car we spend almost $50.

I've heard great things about the other cars that are on your short list especially the Ford Fusion. Hope your search is over quickly. Good Luck!

  • Man, that volvo is super sexy, too.

As far as the Elantra - go to Dallas. The dealership in Norman told us that they couldn't get them in - but we went to a dealership in North Dallas and they had over a dozen of them. The dealership in Ardmore had quite a few as well.  We always buy our cars in Dallas because it seems like they are willing to WORK to get our business unlike the dealerships here. If I am spending $$ on a car, I want what I want and don't tell me you can't get it because...YOU CAN.

    Make/Model- 2008 Honda Civic LX 4 door

    MPG- 30-35

Favorite feature/least favorite feature- Hmm...I don't really have a favorite feature, it's just a simple car really. I do hate the fact that the sun visors are really small. They do nothing to block out sunlight from my eyes, but that's no biggie, I just wear sunglasses.

One thing you would change- Nothing really except the sun visors. I like my little Civic.

    TIA!
