I was just reading through Kristen's MIL stories (girl, you are a saint - two weeks?! ugh) and Pam's post about hers and it got me to thinking. I realized that someday, some girl will probably be complaining about me. I mean, don't you think it's inevitable? No matter how hard I'll try to be a cool, fun, non-annoying MIL, she will probably find something about me that drives her crazy since I'm not her mom. This makes me sad.
I better hang on to these thoughts when that day comes, I really don't want to cause that kind of stress to another person!

My aunt is totally going to be a crazy MIL. I actually told her this to her face and told my cousins GF she can call me anytime to complain about her and I'd put her in her place.
I vow not to be a lunatic.
This. You're pretty normal as it is. I'm glad I'll have a son-in-law and not a daughter-in-law. Boys are just way more laid back.

Oh god. This has me trying to picture my sister with a DIL. Nope, can't see it.

I actually am very fortunate with my MIL. She has gotten on my nerves a couple of times but it was about really minor things. I really love her a lot and she has treated me as her own from day 1. So, they aren't all crazy!
We've done family vacations every summer for a week at a time and we all still get along

I don't think that it's inevitable to be a crazy MIL. Of course we will have conflicts with our children and their spouses, but it seems to me that the worst MIL stories are about MILs who are actually crazy. Getting old causes more craziness to come out, but starting out non-crazy gives us an advantage.
I can't think of anything psychotic my mom has done to my SIL. Rodgers adores her and wants her to spend the weekend with us all the time. I know MIL to son-in-law is a different relationship, but still.
My MIL is not bad but I will saw since becoming pg she annoys me a ton easier, and when the baby is born she is going to drive BSC.
That being said...she means well and is a very nice lady.
I will try my best to not be a lunatic should I have a DIL one day..but all bets are off if she's a nut job.

Agreed - you have the advantage of not being crazy. Which is a big advantage.
I'm going to try my best not to be one of those hovering, overpowering MILs. My mom's kind of that way with H, but she pushes him and means well [most of the time]. We won't get into it about my MIL. I think we moms will be considered a little crazy when we become MILs, but I'm sure we'll all be awesome MILs.
Good thing we're years away from that.
