Update on mom...

Well, I went up and saw her last night. I wasn't going to so she wouldn't feel anxious, but they both (mom & dad) needed some stuff from home. When I got there her neurologist was in there talking to her. They still don't know what happened or what caused it. It still could have been a mini-stroke, it could be a hole in her heart, it could be a blood clot somewhere, etc. etc.. The scariest, I feel, would be the mini stroke because the doctors says those serve as a "warning" that a bigger one is to come. She did have some symptoms of mini-stroke when I was there. More with just saying the wrong word at times, and not really knowing it. Or saying something that my mom would never say. Jeff's grandpa has had many strokes, so we somewhat know what to look for. They are running more tests on her today, and hopefully they will know more at lunch. As of last night, it was doubtful she would be able to come home today.

My mom is just the kind of person that doesn't like anyone making a big fuss about her and just keeps trying to play it off like none of this is a big deal. I think when I was leaving last night, though, everything kind of hit her, and she got pretty teary-eyed, which killed me. I held it together though until I was in the car. I'm just so nervous still, and I thought I would be less so after I saw her, but that wasn't the case.

Just thought you guys would want an update.

  • Thanks for the update-your mom is in my prayers!!!  Let us know when the results come back.
  • Still keeping your mom in my prayers!

And if it helps....my dad had a mini stroke a few years ago. He has no effects from it and with a change in his diet, has had no further problems. Hope that is the case for your mom too!

  • I'm so sorry you're going through this. The waiting is horrible, I know :(

Thanks for keeping us updated and I will keep you all in my thoughts!

  • I'm sorry you are going through this, I am sure it is very scary. You and your family are in my thoughts.

Your mom does sound very similar to how my MIL was when she had a mini-stroke a year and a half ago. She was mixing up words, names, repeating herself, etc. For what it's worth, within a month or so she was back to "normal" and hasn't had any issues since.

  • BIG HUG!!!  Sending prayers that she recovers quickly.  It is good to know that she is in good hands though, I'm glad they are being very careful with their diagnosis.  Keep us updated and take it easy girl!
