I don't know what I did to my neck, but I have hardly been able to move it since Friday. It got sore Thursday after my tempo run (wondering if I was super tense during my run??), got worse Friday night after sleeping poorly, and I am still in pain. I am taking tylenol every four hours, using a heating pad/hot showers, and laying low...but this sucks. It is the whole back of my neck. It also means I haven't run in 3 days, so I am also getting antsy and b*tchy. Oh, and I am gearing up to O...and sexy time in pain is not something I am really looking forward to.
I am really hoping I'll feel better tomorrow...I also have tons of painting to do over my vacation and that will suck if my neck already hurts.
So, a question...when would you call the doctor? I don't want to go in just to be told, "yup, you pulled a muscle, you need to rest it" but at what point do I figure I did more than just pull something?
Re: Arrrgghhh! (Vent...in case you were confused...)
I'm sorry. I know how much that sucks because I've had that happen.
The only other bit of advice I would have would be to try ibuprofen instead of Tylenol but I know you probably don't want to do that if you're on the verge of O. I find gentle stretching after I've heated it helps a little. Try and rest it as much as you can. As quickly as it comes for me, it will usually resolve magically just as quickly.
And you're right, there isn't much the doctor can do.

I'm sorry! That sounds frustrating. I'd give it a few more days before I called a doc, especially if the pain itself isn't getting worse.
That sucks. I had something similar just before we left for Australia and I was dreading the 24 hr flight with neck pain. Luckily for me it seemed to go away on its own after a few days in time for my flight. I did the same as you - tylenol and heating pads. I also got a massage (the chiro couldn't fit me in)
I second going to a chiropractor or a massage therapist. I don't think a doctor will do a whole lot.
