I need your suggestions re. workouts, diet, etc.

DH and I just booked our vacation.  Yay!!  We haven't been on a nice, beach vacation since our honeymoon.  We're spending 4 nights outside of Cancun in May.  Even though it's early we're celebrating our anniversary and beginning our TTC adventures.  Wink  I've been doing pretty good on working out more than usual and watching my diet better.  (not drinking as much, eating fewer refined carbs, etc.) What do you eat for breakfast?  I have a hard time with this one.

Do you have any tips or workouts that you go to when you need to tone up/lose a little in a hurry?  I can do anything for a month but I don't want to do anything crazy or unhealthy.

Any tips or advice will be great.  Thanks!

  • I'm no help on breakfast since I pretty much stick with Mutli-grain Cheerios, coffee, and fruit.

Since you want toning over cardio, try some hand weight exercises, sit ups, and push ups. A friend of mine did the 100 push up challenge and was really impressed with how quickly she saw results.

  • I usually grab a kashi bar for breakfast, they're pretty good, low calorie and filling.  Also protein shakes and a banana are my other go to.

Do some hand weight excercises 3x a week.  I've been doing it for 2 months now, and HUGE difference.  Are you a member of a gym?  Body Pump or something like that is great a few times a week.  What pp suggest is great too!

Also, we're doing the exact same thing you are, but we leave June 30...also for our anniversary and kick off TTC :)  luckily, I have more time than you Stick out tongue

Just remember, no less than 1200 calories a day, if you work out everyday aruond 1400-1500 is usually perfect, depending on height and everything of course.

June 30 is our anniversary, too!  I didn't realize we had the same wedding day.  We just won't have time to take vacation during the actual summer due to DH's work and some other stuff I have planned.  Did you guys decide on where to go yet?

     Thanks for all the tips!

Our actual anniversary date is June 28, we're just leaving the 30th.  I don't work summers (yay teacher!) so it's easy for us in the summer.  We're going back to the Sandals Royal Bahamian for 6 nights!  DH said since I've done so great working out and finishing the new house that we deserved to upgrade from our honeymoon.  So we have the butler service and a private villa :)  I'm stoked!

  • There are lots of awesome workouts you can do in 30-days. In your shoes, I would prob pick up the Shred-It with Weights Jillian Micahels DVD- the kettle bell one.  I have heard that's awesome and can't wait to try.  I don't think her Shred DVD is comprehensive enough, but the No More Trouble Zones is good- I just don't know if you'd get awesome results in 30 days.

Right now I'm doing a Women's Muscle & Fitness routine from a book and, while it's great, I'm habing a hard time working in enough cardio to actually lose weight rather than just gaining muscle.

Food: Breakfast should always be high protein.  You can do PB on toast with yogurt or a breakfast taco on whole-wheat tortilla. Scrambled eggs w/ spinach and tomatoes is another good one.  Yogurt, fresh fruit and lots of granola is another go-to.

Keep a bag of almonds handy for snacks.

Low carbs, low sodium, reduced sugar. You can do this!

  • My favorite breakfast is oatmeal with a small spoonful of almond butter, sliced banana and a good sprinkling of cinnamon. I just use plain rolled oats from the bulk section to make my oatmeal.

30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels is a total butt-kicker for me (but I am out of shape). I never kept it up for 30 Days, but I know if I had, there is no way I would not see awesome results. It's really challenging!

  • I just have cereal and coffee for breakfast, or sometimes toast with peanut butter, so I'm no help in that department. But I will echo previous posters and say that you should keep up with your workout schedule and add weight training. I noticed a big difference when I added weight lifting (I include crunches, handweights, and the machines at the gym in this category...I'm not really a tough body builder or anything!) to my routine. I also find that adding yoga to a cardio routine really makes a difference too in terms of toned-ness.

    Enjoy your vacation!

  • I like having oatmeal and egg whites for breakfast. It's high in protein and fiber and is filling. GL and have fun on your vacation!

  • i want to lose 20 lbs by june 1, probably crazy and not going to happen.

for breakfast we usually just have coffee. 2-3 times per week we have an activia light yogurt, it helps you go potty and its low cal. sometimes if im going for a long workout i will have kashi cereal with light vanilla silk.

have fun on your vaca (and ttc ;)
