Just had a brazilian wax - is this normal?

I had my first brazilian this afternoon. It's been about 7 hours and every thing is bright red. Looks like I have a freakin' sunburn on my hoohah. Is this normal? Does it go away soon? I googled and it sounds like it could be an allergic reaction to the wax, but maybe it's just normal. WDYT?

On a positive note, it wasn't as excruciating as I was expecting. I mean, it hurt, but I didn't cry or anything:)

Re: Just had a brazilian wax - is this normal?

  • I've never had that waxed before, but I've had laser hair removal done. It could be a reaction or just your body's response, but you might try some aloe gel and see if that helps. They put that on after my treatments and it helped - and I have super sensitive skin so that's saying something.

    Hope that helps...sorry.

  • When I used to get waxed, I would put an ice pack on afterwards. I've always been told to wear loose clothing, and to not take a hot shower for a few hours. If you are still having symptoms 24 hrs later, something may be wrong.

  • Normal. Just use a cool compress and some hydrocortisone and it should clear up.

  • i would try some hydrocortisone gel
  • I agree with above--I have super sensitive skin and hydrocortisone over the counter always helps a lot with the initial reaction.  It doesn't calm down and look pretty for about 3 days, though.

  • If it is not itching or burning I do not think your having a allergic reaction. I am red that whole day and better the next morning.

  •   That's why I sugar instead of waxing.
  • Totally normal, FI once told me my hooha looked "angry" lol. I'm usually red and swollen for a couple hours, and red until the next morning. I've been waxing monthly for about two years now and still have this reaction. HTH

Aww, i work at a Day Spa and regularly get Brazilians.    What I would do is use some Aloe Vera oil on it (make sure it's natural)  And shower off to make sure that all the wax has been removed.   Also!  I'm not sure if you're able to see your hooha ( i can't right now D:)  but try to tweeze out any excess hairs possible left behind so that your brazilian will stay prettier longer.

    Hope this helps :D

  • It is normal, I am brazilian and have done this several times... If it doesn't go away in like 24 hours after that, then you should start worry a little because it could be alergy, other than that it will look like sunburnt, red, and if you touch the area you might not feel comfortable. But it will go away.
