open house: master bedroom

I'm starting this tonight since I have to go to work early tomorrow.

Re: open house: master bedroom

  • MB is a work in progress. We've still got our winter down comforter on the bed. The bedskirt clearly doesn't match; it was from our old comforter.

We painted the walls (Gobi Desert) last fall. My dad and I made the headboard out of 2 pocket doors. I want to get matching bedside tables. Ty says hi!

    image

View from the bed. Little alcove thingy. I want to paint the dresser white. It is varnished or something, but I don't want to sand it. I am going to need some super duper primer.

    image

Inside the alcove. It is basically Ty's room! Built in drawers where I keep my clothes.

    image

The other side of the alcove. We want to add more shelves to the right side and then more basket thingies. Please excuse my pile of clothes in there. Preliminary packing four our trip niext week!

    image

Looking back towards the door. That's my closet door and the little door goes to attic space.

  • Mary, your house has so much character, I just love it!

This was from when we bought the house.  Although the furniture has changed nothing else has (including the color I'm not a fan of).  We're tentatively in the talks of getting a new bedroom set and painting, but we're not there quite yet.

(our bedroom is also nowhere near this clean!)

  • mary, your house continues to be adorable. that alcove and the built in shelves are awesome.

    another realtor gem.

we've since moved the bed to the other side (near where this photo was taken) for better staging. The bedding set is also different (though this is my fav duvet cover, its from IKEA, but we have a microfiber one on right now I borrowed from my mom b/c it looks more lux) and we have like a million pillows right now to hide the lack of headboard.

when we get a new place, a sleighbed will be our first furnature purchase.

  • I love our bedroom!  It's also a work in process, but the only thing I want is a black & white print for above our bed in an ocean/beach theme.  This is a before:

    image

And the afters taken back when I was on maternity leave I think (they are a bit fuzzy and you'll see a teeny tiny M if you look closely in one of them! Bassinet is no longer in our room, either):

    image

We have a b&w 8x10 print of M's newborn feet with our wedding bands on her big toes now on the small wall between my dresser mirror and the window.

    image

Door on the left is our walk-in closet, that's A's dresser, and the double doors are to our bathroom, the final door on the right is the entrance to the MBR.

Mary - I love the shelves and Ty's room. Someone else said it, but I agree that your house has so much character!

Heather - What is the color of your walls? I like it!

I want to paint this room. Matt says it is his favorite color in the house. I'm working on him, slowly.

This is the view from the door. I need to add some nicer window coverings. I would also like to put something above the bed, but I'm not sure what.

     image

The door on the right is to the hallway. The door on the left is a pocket door that leads to our bathroom and closets. There is a double vanity on the left and our walk in closet on the right. The shower and toilet are straight ahead (with another door).

  • Mary, I'm in love with your house. :)

I completely forgot to clean up and take pictures this weekend (didn't help that I worked Saturday) so my pictures are old. I laughed when I looked at my bedroom this morning thinking "There is no way I'll get new pictures today". It looks like a tornado went through it. In my defense we are getting ready to go to NC Thursday so there are clothes everywhere.  Our master suite takes up the entire back of the house. I love the size of the room and can't wait to get new, nice, matching furniture. Right now everything is mismatched.  We painted the walls before we moved in, and it's really kinda too dark now...I'm thinking about repainting.  I also wish we had put an extra window in on the short wall opposite the bathroom (where our bed is now). We eventually want to buld the bathroom out a couple feet, and will add the window then.

Before we moved in, standing near walk in closet, looking towards the bathroom.

    image

Since these pictures were taken we got new bedding (this was left over from our townhouse), brought our big oversized chair up from downstairs to put in front of the window, and removed the 'expression' from the wall...I ordered it too dark, and you couldn't read it.

    Standing in the doorway:

    image

Similar view to the 1st picture. We now have light green w/ brown bedding, and chocolate curtains.

    image

Looking towards the closet from the bathroom...excuse the mess please.

    image

A couple months ago we switched the bed and my upright dresser. I like it much better now.  This is just after we did it, hence the vacuum and all still being out...bad cell pic. When I uploaded this to FB this AM everyone thinks the bed is broken...I think it just looks slanted b/c there are more pillows on one side.

    image

This is the picture hanging on the wall....LOVE the mat/frame :)

    image

I had had plans to make a chocolate brown padded headboard for our bed, but then I found this and really liked it. I have 2. They're not up yet because DH has to make some changes to them, they're meant to hang vertical and I want them to hang horizontal over the bed. If I ever get around to making the headboard these'll move into another room pretty easy.:)

  •  This is our plain bedroom taken last year right after we had painted it! We have since added more decorations and new lighting fixtures.

  • Jo I love that bedroom set. I am generally anti-footboard because they're too big, but I love how finished the make the bed look somehow. I love how low it is.

Thanks! It was the one in the store that we both stopped at. I like it because it's low in comparison to the mattress, too. The bed is actually really high, though. I'm 5'4 and the top of the mattress if a bit higher than my hip. The first couple mornings were a bit shocking when I got out of bed half asleep.

  • Our master bedroom is the size of a cracker jack box. I would love for it to be about 5 ft. longer and 5 ft. wider. Oh well, it works for now!

Note: that ugly green plaid bedding is gone, that was from our apartment.

TV is no longer in our room, either. I moved some of the items from my dresser above to Wade's.

    With the new bedding.

I'm seeing a trend with my Open House...my cats or dogs are in almost all of my pictures!

Zeus is in most of mine too because he has to follow his mommy everywhere.  I think Roxy may be in some too. :)
