  • That's hilarious.
  • Eh. A good picture is a good picture. IMO the only difference between a "real" photographer and an amateur is the amount of time they can dedicate to it. Anyone can make a living out of their hobby if they are good enough.

The same can be said "just because you own a blog, you are not a writer."  Why would someone buy a magazine when they can read blogger for free? Or hire a photographer if their friend takes great pictures? Everyone gets their start somewhere.

  • Yes, but some of these are terrible.  Just embarrassingly horrific.  Say your friend took a beautiful photo of your baby, reduced it, and then stuck it in a faux bird's nest?  I'm sure that took a long time to do, but does it look good?  Hell no.

  • That is funny, I do have to agree with the posts on there but on the other hand there are some really talented hobbyists out there.  I can relate to this site in which a few girls I know (from HS, etc.) have started fb pages or businesses promoting their "photography".

    I agree : )

I also agree that those photos are quite horrible, just cause you have a decent camera doesnt make you a real photographer. it takes a lot of practise, dedication and understanding. It doesnt mean you have to have a masters degree on photography to be one either, I know a lot of great photographers that are doing well just by self-taught knowledge partnered with natural talent. Someone, can have a point and shoot camera and produce a great shot and there's also someone who owns a $3000 camera that can produce a horrible shot because they have no clue how to use it.

I am a hobbyist (someone who takes a particular interest to heart). I can't call myself a professional photographer (just yet) because I am not. I may get a few couple shots that everyone agreed on as a great shot but I have a long way to go. I have to say I have a little more understanding compared to some but thats becauase I dedicate a lot of time reading and practising which is how most REAL photographer start anyways.

Overall, its also the customer's fault to hire these "photographers" it gives the "photographer" false hope that their work is great because someone actually hired them lol.
