BR: Cramping

Did anyone else go through this when they were pregnant? I'm talking BAD cramps. I've had two bouts of them now. Once was over a month ago in the middle of the night that lasted a couple of hours. Then again this past Saturday night, they lasted three hours and were so bad I called my doctor.

I'm not really concerned since the doctor reassured me that cramping is normal and not to worry unless I also had bleeding (which I didn't).

I'm just wondering if anyone else had this too? I've never heard any women I know complain about it during pregnancy, so just wondering!

Re: BR: Cramping

  • I'm still really early on, but I had some pretty bad cramping last week. My OB said that as long as there's no bleeding, you should be fine. The cramping is just your ute expanding and everything else shifting around to make room for baby.

  • Is it definitely cramping? I have a lot of stomach cramping/upset stomach from being constipated, but not like period cramping. However, I know people that have had that. Every pregnancy is so different. I hope you feel better soon!!

Yea it's definitely cramping. Thankfully, I've been able to go to the bathroom, so I know it's not that! They're similar to period cramps but also a little different.

  • Yep, it's just your uterus stretching to make room for the baby. It's normal. I always just trying to stay still when I felt that because I found if I moved around, it was worse.

    Hope you feel better!

Totally! I was literally doubled over on Saturday night. I knew some cramping was normal but this seemed so extreme!

What you're feeling, those sharper pains, are probably what they call round ligament pains. it's the actual ligaments that hold your uterus in place stretching and moving to accomodate your growing ute. Totally normal but I know it can be scary!

  • I had it the entire time- I still get it sometimes now. Drink LOTS of water. That seems to help mine.

Sweeet! Lol. I told Josh that I hope I'm not in pain like that again until I'm in labor:)

Ohh. So that's what that feels like. I sometimes feel a stretching 'down below' that's uncomfortable and I thought it was round ligament pain.

Oh geez! Well, at least it's good to know I'm not the only one. I seriously never had anyone I know talk about this before. Thanks for the tip too:)

I just meant that the location of my stretching is like...in my vag nor in my belly. Sorry that I'm being so blunt!

None of my friends had it either- I used to swear I was losing the baby. I went in twice with small amounts of bleeding but they couldnt find anything wrong. Obviously I am full term now and I still get them when I am more dehydrated.

    Good luck- it goes fast!

    Yes

I really have nothing else to add to what everyone else said. It's amazing what your body does while pregnant and what you wouldn't think is normal... is perfectly fine! Just trust your instincts and always ask questions when you're not sure. Smile

  • yes I've heard some people get it really bad. my 2nd tri was uneventful. I got my burst at 3rd tri

Are you referring to "lightning crotch?"  Because that can take your breath away.  It's only happened to me maybe four or five times.  Once it happened while I was driving and another time I was standing in the middle of Target and nearly dropped my shopping basket.  It feels like an electric current shooting straight through your vag.

The round ligament pains can definitely suck too.  I had them much more often in my first and second tri's.  If you stand up too fast, flip over in bed too fast, or just move funny, those can seriously feel like sharp pinching or stabbing sensations that last several minutes.  Totally normal though, Rach!

As for actual cramping, I never had too much of it except some weird tugging around implantation and occasional cramping in first tri.  Like others said though, it's just your uterus stretching.  You may start feeling Braxton Hicks contractions by week 20 too, since you're so thin.  I did, but then again, I have way more than normal because I have an "irritable uterus" apparently.  BH don't really feel like cramps to me, it's more of a tightening across your stomach, but I confused them with cramps when I first felt them.

Maybe it is lightening crotch! Kind if feels like my lady garden is stretching and making room to deliver the baby or something. Every now and then I get sharp pains down there.
  • I am a little late to the conversation, but I had cramping throughout my pregnancy.
