I had my first OB appointment today and I was really nervous for it because I have been having some spotting. Everything went great though, we saw the baby on the ultrasound and we could even see the heartbeat flickering away-it was amazing! The Dr. said that after you see the heartbeat and a good ultrasound the risk of miscarriage is very low, so I finally feel like I can breathe easy!!!
They put my due date at Nov. 30th, I'm about 7 weeks along!
How are all the other soon-to-be-mommy's doing? I know we had a few due in May, coming up soon!
Re: Good first appointment!
Yay for a good first appointment! Did the OB tell you why you are spotting? (i.e. sensitive cervix?)
I just got my energy back, just in time for finals! After all my papers/presentations are over, J (DH) and I will be working on turning the guest bedroom into an empty space so later in the summer we can make a nursery. I have yet to go see a cardiologist (I was born with a heart defect that was repaired when I was 18mo. old, so my heart has to be closely monitored during pregnancy) and I scheduled Pumpkin's fetal echo (to make sure the LO doesn't have the same problem as me!) for June.
How are all the other mommies-to-be doing?
she didn't give a specific reason for the spotting but just said that many women experience it.
How exciting about getting the nursery ready! Are you going to find out if it's a boy or girl?
Just wondering; some OBs are able to discern a reason, so I was just curious. I hope it stops soon!
We aren't going to find out and since we're in an apartment there's not much we'd be able to do even if we were going to find out. Right now I'm thinking dark brown furniture, because the dark brown goes nice with pastels. We're thinking of getting generic WInnie-the-Pooh sheets and then doing more "decorating" once baby moves into that room (S/he will be in our room for a while until we can get down to two or so feedings a night, at least).
Aww I'm so glad that you had a great appointment! The first ultrasound is simply amazing...breathtaking is probably the best word for it. I think it was one of the best moments in DH and I's lives.
Our little man is really growing these days! I keep thinking I can't get any bigger, and then I do haha. I love it though
Once you start to show, definitely take pictures every week. It's so neat to look back through the weeks and see your progression!
Oh, I'm so happy it went well and LO is doing fine! The first u/s (and any others, actually) are so exciting! Every time you see him/her or hear the heartbeat is just an awesome feeling!!
Over here, we're feeling really ready for baby to come. We've pretty much put together everything and the nursery is set, plus, I've washed and put away all clothes, towels, burp cloths, everything! I've got 4 weeks to go and I'm nesting like crazy, just wish I had more energy to do everything! Since I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, I'll have another ultrasound on Monday to check his growth, although they're not very worried and things he's perfectly average right now.
*sorry-didn't mean to hijack the post, I'm a bit of an AW lately...I'll have to post some nursery pics once we put up the wall art tomorrow.
Definitely post nursery pics!!! Did you decide on a name?
I wouldn't worry, I think we're all a bit AW-ish sometimes when we're excited! I know that I get somewhat AW-ish on here b/c there are so many mommies/mommies-to-be and it's not as scary as the month boards on the bump!
As for nesting, yay for having everything ready! and yay to hear that your LO is doing well
Gah! All you pregnant girls are so not helping here lol!
Congrats to all of you and glad all the LOs are doing well!
I'm glad you had a great first appointment! You're due only a few weeks after me! How exciting!
I never had spotting, but my OB warned me that it was totally normal during the first trimester, especially while you're going through the implantation phase, and not to worry if I did. You only have to worry if it's bright red and heavy. I know it's unnerving, but I swear they said it's totally normal!
Everything is so far, so good here....still not sleeping much, but the second trimester is only a week away, so here's hoping the magic kicks in and I get some sleep!
have you also been exhausted? I swear I've never felt exhaustion like this in my life. I took a FIVE hour nap on Saturday!
It's cool we're both due in November-I've been following your blog and can relate to pretty much everything you write about!!!
And thank you for the reassurance about the spotting-it is really scary but since it's now been going on for over a week and the baby still looked really healthy, I think I am finally able to relax and realize that it is probably just normal spotting. I will be really happy to hit the 2nd tri though!
Yes-Justin James
Yes we'll have to keep up with each other for sure!! I can't imagine having insomnia right now, the exhaustion is overwhelming and then to not be able to sleep on top of that would be terrible. luckily you're almost to 2nd tri so things should even out a little bit.
