Ok ladies, so fess up. Who is a coupon cutter? What level of coupon cutter are you?
I used to be a occassional coupon cutter. But things have gotten tighter and with the un-known going on in Wisconsin (and being a state employee) I'm in this "nesting/preparing" mode.
I've made it a point to remember to buy the sunday paper and I've started printing coupons off the internet and looking for the sales that match up with my coupons, etc. I have a system down now. I will say though, I'm not as obsessive as some of the people on that show "Extreme couponing". I don't tend to buy tons of products (I usually one have 1 copy of a coupon, where they somehow end up with multiples), and I only buy stuff that we use. I don't spend as much time as it as those people do either.
I must say though, I was pretty proud of myself on saturday when I went grocery shopping and only spent $77 and saved $89.
So tell me about your couponing!!!
Re: Hi, my name is Mary and I'm a coupon cutter
hahaha. Can you please come over to my house?
My dear, sweet husband suddenly decided he wanted to get big into coupons a couple weeks ago after watching a "extreme couponing" show.
I must confess, I've spent the last couple of weeks teasing him.
I think it's great to save money, but I don't get stocking up on a gazillion cans of something just cause it was on sale. We barely cook as it is and I cannot tell you how much food we throw out. It's awful.
So anyway, he's collecting coupons now - and they sit my range rover's center console. The whole stack of them. Oh goody.

:-) That's kinda funny. J was making fun of me and then he asked me how much i saved on saturday when i got home and he was impressed.
Yeah, I stock up on things that we'll use, but when I say stock up, I guess I should say that means only a couple bottles/cans, whatever.
I refuse to dedicate an entire room/garage to a stock pile like those people on the show have!
I wish I was. I try to clip them and then I forget to use them. However, last Sunday we went to breakfast Greg bought the paper I clipped coupons and actually used 2 of them! For me this is huge!
So basically I fail at coupon cutting
I will use clothing coupons like nobody's business (Old Navy, Lane Bryant, BBB, etc), and will even google coupon codes before checkout.
But at the grocery store, we don't use coupons at all. Vitamin cottage and Whole Foods just have sales, never coupons. And if we shop at the big chains, coupons from the paper are for junk food stuff. We try to stick to all fresh stuff (outer rim of grocery store).
Gah, that sounded really snobby. Basically I'll check ads for produce/meat sales, but you can't really clip coupons for those things.
This. I always buy the Sunday paper for the coupons. I only buy things when they are on sale unless I absolutely need them. We do our grocery shopping at Wally World and use coupons when we can so we do save $$.

Exactly Brew! Even though Chris wants to jump into the couponing thing, it's the first thing he noticed. None of the extreme couponners had fresh produce in their carts. What's the point?
And Moleson....you should see my basement and pantry right now
It's nowhere like those people, but I swear if Chris brings another can of peas into the house, I'm going to throw something.

I definitely use coupons for clothes but that's usually because they're for online and I can just C&P it into the little box.
I look for coupons, print them and even cut them out and when it comes time to go to the grocery store, I never remember to grab them. I usually still only get sale items but I'm with some of the others and try to stick to the outer grocery store for fresh meats, fruits and veggies. If the store is have a sale then I'll usually just buy the sale stuff (2 for whatever) and we usually always have some kind of pasta available.
I clip coupons for things I use. When I clip a coupon of something, I check how much of it I have left and see if it makes sense for me to use it.
I also peruse emails I get with coupon deals.
We were getting the paper for a bit, so I was clipping the Sunday coupons for things we use, like DH's deodorant, etc. But I agree with Brew - many of the (food) coupons are for crap you shouldn't eat anyway.
I do get inordinately excited when I get those Target coupons AND a manufacturer coupon for something. I got DH the Old Spice deodorant he likes basically for free, so I was pretty stoked. Plus some dog bones or something. Yay!
I use junk food coupons when I have a party coming up (chips/crackers, etc).
I mainly use coupons for canned tomatoes (since I throw these in a lot of things), dog treats, cleaning supplies, otc meds, health and beauty stuff, yogurt and other dairy, and frozen veggies (obsessed with the steamfresh veggies).
This made me laugh out loud. I'm visioning you throwing, not just something, but actually throwing the can of peas. nice.
Yeah, I try and clip for heathly things.
BUT, J is a man of convienence. If he's own his own to eat, and there isn't something convienent like frozen pizza or hot pockets or crap like that, then he won't eat. Which then means, I have to listen to his stomach growl that night while I'm trying to sleep. However, I have gotten him switched to Lean Pockets. Also, he can't heat up a lunch, so him taking a lunch usually involves the typical "grade school" lunch of a sandwich, chips/crackers, fruit snacks, and a fruit of some kind.
Walgreens is a GREAT place for stuff like toliet paper/paper towels, body wash, deoderant, etc. They usually have a sale, and usually there are coupons (sometimes a walgreens coupon AND a manufacturer). But they also do "register rewards" now on certain items each week. When you get those when you check out, it's like free money that you can use on your next purchase.
I am a medium couponer. I cut coupons out of the sunday paper (we get the ads and coupons when H's grandma is done, so it's usually missing a few, but not usually the stuff we buy. I tend to use them for stuff like shampoo, deodorant, razor blades, paper towels, etc. I do occasionally use them for stuff like the refridgerated biscuits or something like that.
I like to use coupons from JoAnns or Micheals on my craft related stuff. I keep their ads in my purse so if I buy something, I can use the coupon. I so rarely buy clothes, especially online, but I do look for codes whenever I buy anything online to find some kind of a discount.
In college I used to do tons of coupon clipping to get food for the week. My roommates and I had a game. We would put the receipts with the highest percentage of savings on the fridge and constantly try to beat each other.
But now I am lazy and just pay the price for the food I want. I should be more fiscally responsible.
IUI #1 10/12/11 (Bravelle + HCG + Prometrium & acupuncture) = 10/26 BFP! Beta #1=250, Beta #2= 615. 1st u/s 11/8.
I am obsessed with using coupons. I bartend and one of the guys that comes in goes to the recycle centers and gets around 100-150 inserts each week. So he brings me coupons. We have a good stock of dishwasher detergent, dish soap, deodorant, soap, etc. I figure when we save money on this sort of stuff we can buy fresh produce and things like that and still save money. We stock up on toothpaste when CVS or Walgreens have deals. We haven't paid for a tube of toothpaste since before we got married. When we get this sort of stuff by just paying the tax it makes a huge difference on our monthly budget.
