Architect recommendation/cost?
DH and I are looking to buy a fixer-upper and would want an architect to help us configure the house and give us the best layout. Do you know what that may cost? Do you know of any good architects in the area? (we're in St Cloud, if that matters).
Thanks.
Re: Architect recommendation/cost?
MizKizdoodle is your go to gal for this question. If I had to throw a range of an hourly rate out there at ya, I would say $80-$120 an hour. (Kiz correct me please!)
As for someone in St. Cloud, you could very easily look at residential architects here in the metro if you would like to open up your choices. I'm not familiar with how their fee structure works for travel ( depends on the firm/architect) but an hour drive isn't a huge expense especially if you find one you like in this area. If you did select one here, you could work out the number if site visits upon consultation. And depending on the work, it may not have to be that many.
The only firms I know of in St. Cloud do mostly commercial, and I can't speak to their work or reputation in order to give a rec.

That sounds about right. It really depends on how far you want an architect to take your project.
On our "full service" projects we usually end up about 10% of construction costs. Some projects we do a lot more and some a lot less.
Our principal architect bills at $120 I think. I bill much less because I'm not registered yet but I still have the knowledge base to do most of the same things.
Each firm bills differently too. Some do hourly, some do a %. I would peruse some websites and find architects with a style that you like.
You can search here for firms who do residential. Pick "Residential - new, remodels, additions" in the "Building Type" category.
