I?ve been working at CitiMortgage since the end of January as a temporary associate and really enjoy this job. I got the news about 6 weeks ago that the company would be moving to a city 30-40 minutes away and my department didn?t get the approval to take any of their temps with them. I?ve been frantically applying to jobs, sending my resume out, and saving every extra penny I could in case I didn?t find a new job before this one was over.
Well, my boss just came up to me and said that a permanent employee is on early maternity leave (she?s not due for another 3 months) and then she?ll have her time off after the baby is born, and they?ve gotten the approval to take 1 temp to the new location with them. There are 15 temps in our department, and she said I was the only one they even considered. She also said that once they move and get settled, they have a permanent position to open up for hire doing exactly what I am currently doing (they?ve been on a hiring freeze until after the move) and that I would be the front runner for that position. My current boss is retiring soon, but said she already moved all of my information over to the new boss and that I should be good to go.
Now I?m not getting my hopes up 100% yet because she said she doesn?t know the exact date when I?ll get the ?official? word, so I guess things could still fall through so I still plan to continue to apply for other jobs, but for me this is great news. The 30-40 minute drive will stink, especially since my suv is horrible with gas, but I am just so thankful to at least see a little light at the end of this tunnel.

Yea!! That is great news, Xan! Happy to hear it's looking good for you.
Getting fit for IVF!
Ditto!
Xan-I went from (paid) intern to part-time temp to full-time permanent within 7 months. It does feel great to go on, & I'm happy I can claim that accomplishment, you know?
I also drive 35 miles 1 way. It takes ~50 minutes when the weather is good. Besides gas, it really isn't that bad & you do get used to it. I have XM radio & listen to all kinds of stuff on it. It is worth every penny I ever paid for it.
