Since I will be home all summer with the kiddos and have a two year old that is infatuated with the park and who begs to go there multiple times a day, we are thinking about investing in a playset. I just think with a 4 month old in the mix it may be easier to have one in our backyard that I can go out and play with Ella on while B is napping. They are big investment so we are struggling to choose one and are still not even 100% sure that we are going to get one but we are leaning that way. After lots of looking, we have come up with some possible finalists. What are your opinions? Pros and cons of any?
Our preferences are to have a fun treehouse type tower, nice slide, and preferably two swings and a teeter totter but we know we can change those out later if necessary. My only worry is the rock climbing wall and regular ladder- will those be too hard for Ella? She is really good at those fake rock looking steps that are gray plastic but we have had a hard time finding a playset that has those and all the other features we want. Any opinions would be appreciated!
Oh and I know the Lowes ones are a bit more expensive but we have a $200 gift card there plus 10% off so they all average out to around the same price.
Re: Help me pick a playset!
We bought that first one for the girls, so I guess that would be my choice.
I liked seeing it in person, it looks really high quality. One thing I knew I wanted for sure was a "real" roof rather than the tarp kind. Our neighbors w/ the tarps look really worn after only a couple of years. But it looks like you already have that weeded out anyway. I am a little concerned about the tube slide, b/c I don't think ingrid will be able to use it this summer, but all of our neighbors have the regular slides, so she can borrow from them.
I think that the tube slide will be lots of fun for longer for them both b/c no one else in our joint backyards have it.
As far as the rock wall/stairs, I think ella would be fine for sure w/ regular stairs. Gretta had no problem at all w/ stairs last summer, and can easily navigate rock walls now. I do really like those fake rock stairs though for younger kids, wish they were easier to come by.
I also like the teeter-totter thing and was sad it didn't come with it. you can buy them at menards,w hcih we might do eventually. maybe that will be a gift next summer when ingrid will be able to use it and it will "freshen up" the set again.
Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong w/ any of your choices. I think that the walmart tree house thing doesn't look as much fun as the cedarsummit, for the same price. I would probably go w/ either the cedar summit or the first lowes option i think.
Thanks for your opinion and info Jaime! It helps to hear from someone who has actually purchased one! I agree with the "real" roof thing. Those tarps get weathered and worn so easily so that was also one of our must haves that I didn't mention. I am also glad to hear that you think Ella will be able to navigate the regular ladder okay and hopefully even the rock wall soon. I think the rock wall is super cool it just looks hard to me!
Have you guys put yours together yet? I am dreading that part lol!
We were not going to get a playset this summer but the grandmas decided to buy it for us so I've been looking around a bit. I think you can't go wrong with any of them.
FWIW - I know from playing at backyard adventures that my girls LOVE the two person gliders. That's a must for us. I also want to make sure that the steps up to the slide are far away from the swings. Swings are kind of dangerous for my daydreamers. lol! I too prefer the hard roofs and while the covered slide makes my heart race, (eek small spaces!) I think it would be nice for playing right after a rain because the slide wouldn't be wet. Both Ana and Katen do well with the large steps at backyard adventures so I wouldn't worry about those. K is just getting to the point where she can master the rock wall so I think that would grow with the kids as well.
Wow- these are all awesome!!! Can I come over and play???
Maybe in about a year, and I will bring some drinks with umbrellas in them??? haha.
