This house buying thing is frustrating

We just got a call from our lawyer that there are title issues with our house and we may not be able to close by 5/2.  Seriously seller, wtf? The house has been on the market since July, our offer was accepted 2/21, even though we had 5/2 as a close date in our original offer we let them know early March that we were interested in closing the week of 4/15.  That didn't happen because they took their dear sweet time with the title search, and now there are problems so we may not even be able to close on 5/2.  Our rate lock agreement expires 5/6 = problem if we don't close by then.  Also we are really hesitant about buying a house with title issues. I know there is title insurance, but we were told you can just waive it, but in this case we may actually want it, but that's about an extra $1k that we haven't budgeted for (do you think we can make them pay for it?)  Add to the complication that I live in MI and the house is in NY (DH lives in both places) so it's not like I can close on a whim, plus I'm trying to coordinate a move.  Ahhh!  Buying a house has been way more stressful than enjoyable for us so far.

  • Oh no!  I'm sorry the process has been less than enjoyable for you!  Just think about how happy you'll be once you get in the house, though!

Good luck with the rate lock thing.  Perhaps you could ask that the seller pay for a lock extension?

This.  I'd absolutely ask them to pay for the extension andddd title insurance.  You gave them sufficient time to get their sh!t together, so it's crazy that you should suffer now.  It's a buyers market these days so you guys should be demanding.  I can't believe that in this market there are sellers that are dragging their feet!  They should be counting their blessings that their home is being purchased.. geeeez I'm annoyed for you lol

  • That is ridiculous!  I can sympathize though; my appraiser kept requiring extra *** to be done-like painting the shed...

  • Sorry to hear the sellers are being such a pain.  You'll be in and thrilled before you know it!
